I'm a bit curious as to how this'll turn out: what do you tune to, which what axe, and why? Also, post the style of music you play mostly.

My two electrics are in D and my acoustic is in E. I like the tightness of higher tunings but the heaviness of lower tunings, and D seems to be a pretty happy medium for me so far. The acoustic is in E because nothing else feels or sounds 'right' to me on an acoustic, for some reason.

That said, I constantly GAS for another 7 string, and I do drop to C a fair bit, as well as use my GSP1101 to switch tunings around on a whim, and absolutely love the 'charm' associate with standard tuning. Hopefully I'll be able to let the stable grow a bit and have more axes to change tunings on!

Eb here, with a little drop Db now and then. Mostly because it's still pretty standard tuning as far as basic chords and scales go, but makes the action a little easier and sounds a little beefier.

Re: What do you tune to?

I spend most ofmy time in Eb and Drop C# these days, and I play hard rock.

Re: What do you tune to?

For the most part I'd say Drop D and Standard tuning. I have a couple of guitars that are tuned two steps down to D. I also have a couple that are tuned a step down as well as dropped to Db. My 12 string acoustic is usually tuned to some kind of weird D tuning. I don't even know what it's called. I just came up with it using my ears.

For a long time It was dropped D but any more i just uesstandard. For a really interesting tunning to experiment with (actually did it and recorded something with this tunning) double dropped capod at the 2ND FRET. Love it on acoustic. Would like to tune to dropped Q once!!!!:laugh2::laugh2::laugh:

Re: What do you tune to?

my guitars are each set up for specific tunings....E, Eb, D, drop D, drop Db. i sold my drop C guitar so sometime down the road i may need to replace that.

Re: What do you tune to?

I've got guitars in various tunings, mostly standard... and those will travel to drop D as needed.

For some reason I don't think of drop D as an "alternate" tuning...

A few of my rides are setup for open tunings... mostly G and E.

I used to have a guitar dedicated to DADGAD but had to switch it to standard as a backup... it'll probably go back before long. Right now there's a hole where the bridge pickup used to be.

I don't have a guitar tuned to Eb... though I had two some years back when I joined a band that was playing in Eb.

Re: What do you tune to?

Eb standard or Drop Db when I need to. Moving to Eb was a band decision that worked out very well for us. I now keep most of my guitars in Eb, only one is in E standard. Style of music for the band is generic radio-rock. When I noodle, I dabble in blues here and there, but Eb was very natural.

Re: What do you tune to?

Maybe I'm getting old, but it just seems to make life simpler (in every aspect) to use standard tuning. Old dog, new trick.

Re: What do you tune to?

E, Eb standard, Drop D and craft tuning for my 6'ers typically. I switch them all the time.

E and D standard for my classical depending on the piece

My 7 string will be in A standard when it's finished in a month or so

Re: What do you tune to?

It all depends...most of the materal I play is in either E or Eb and I keep something in open G a far bit, sometimes for flavor or a different feel I'll go to D and transpose all my fingers up a step just to get the deep tone and loose feel but by and large I'd go with plain old E

Re: What do you tune to?

Drop D all the way for everything. For some covers I use standard E.

I also use std E that when I try to teach my lady to play acoustics. It is funny because I'm all about that musical instinct R'n'R/metal stuff (besides I haven't play an acoustic guitar for more than a decade) and she's an ex-pro chemballo/piano classical player, knowing all the theory stuff to a degree :)

Re: What do you tune to?

Eb is probably my favourite tuning (and my teacher does his lessons in Eb), but I keep a guitar in E standard for the sake of convenience, for following tabs, etc.

Re: What do you tune to?

Mostly standard tuning. Depending upon the songs being played, I may do something different. Usually that would be an open E or open D, right now I have my Tele tuned to a five string open G. I've messed around a bit w/DADGAD also (very little, and on my acoustic).
