What is the best guitar to kick the crap out of?

Not looking to buy another guitar I am just curious about various opinions. I am playing metal again and my guitars take a lot of abuse when I am playing aggressive music. Especially when I am playing rhythms. I just broke the toggle on my Les Paul last practice, not the first time I have done this. I switched back to my SG which seems to take a beating better than most of my guitars. The switches and knobs seem to be out of my path of destructions. I am thinking the perfect guitar for me when playing anything agressive would be a double cut mahogany guitar with a single high gain pickup and a TOM, if it exsists.

In your opinion what do you think the most sturdy workhorse axe is?

A strat. Does not fall apart even in the extreme case of taking a header. Go and get Jim Root's sign strat or tele.

the only problem with a strat is that the controls are on the path of obliteration when you have a string crippler by picking hand (as i do), due to that i consider the super teles (ala telegib) far better for metal than superstrats, also others that take a beating are the flying v's, about anything shaped like a flying v takes a beating like a champ, add a vote for the explorer and put in the ml and ibanez xiphos, both x shaped guitars have the controls away from your picking hand so you don't destroy them but also near enough for quick reaching.

seriously, i don't understand why there are so many superstrats and so little superteles......

+1 on the Strat, Stevie Ray Vaughan sure abused his and they held up quite well

My Les Paul has the same issue with the switch
I would assume a superstrat of some sort

I noticed the esp Ltd has the switch down by the knobs

I love my Les Paul but that switch is gonna be a sticking point

Ibanez superstrat is my vote
But the super jumbo frets makes it not the same

Check out guitars made of steel and copper- they should last a pretty long time. Now the components are not supposed to get beat like that, and that will happen on any guitar you have. Don't break your toys!

Strat for sure. One has survived rewiring by me and I smashed an LP copy once.. fell apart in seconds.

Ash tele/broadcaster/esquire, one.piece maple neck......it's like an anvil less.plastic than a strat and the more solid neck joint area of the singlecut.

Yeah something like this is perfect, not that I am in the market. All of the switches are out of the path of destruction. Knobs are out of the way and not prone to be rolled accidentally.

Man, I've got to say maple bolt-on neck with a fixed bridge... Tele or hardtail Strat. If Strat, relocate the volume to either Tone 2 or "Tom Dulonge" position.

I am pretty careful with my guitars, they get played super hard but don't get bashed around and banged off of things. At the end of the day if it is a player, nicks happen.

Bashing a cheap guitar is meaningless. It only has true meaning if you thrash a very expensive instrument. In one of the Marx Brothers' films, Groucho rows a small boat using a Gibson L5 as an oar.
