What I've been up to in the last 2 months (Gretsch/Green Buddy content). Lots of pics

Re: What I've been up to in the last 2 months (Gretsch/Green Buddy content). Lots of

Oh man!
I KNOW you'd probably never sell it but I think it's good to know how much OTHER people appreciate it beside you and us, the gang! :)

Oh, and, IMO, I think the Budy looks better than that Martin:cool2:

Re: What I've been up to in the last 2 months (Gretsch/Green Buddy content). Lots of

:) Thank you! Actually that day was pretty cool. We went to two music shops, and they both had something cool to say. The first shop was where the guy offered $1800, then the second shop the owner's wife commented on how much she loved the Green. Then the owner came down and tried to help me find a good case, but he really loved it too. He'd never seen anything like it.

Next thing up, knobs! Can't wait to see what knobs I land on.

Re: What I've been up to in the last 2 months (Gretsch/Green Buddy content). Lots of

I wonder if putting those Gretch knobs you had posted some time ago would be in poor taste.

I vaguely remember someone else posting some other cool knobs.
In any case, I think vintagy-chrome suits it fine with the melita and the new pickup ring...

Re: What I've been up to in the last 2 months (Gretsch/Green Buddy content). Lots of

Right it'll definitely be Chrome. And the knobs will not be blatantly Gretsch, that defeats the purpose. The ones I posted simply have an arrow, and they are Gretsch knobs, but have no G. I really love the look of the knobs, but I'm not sure, as you said, that they'd fit perfectly. Well, the look would fit 100%. But they are Gretsch knobs when it comes down to it, and this is not a Gretsch.

So who knows.

I also really like the knobs on TV Jones' new guitars, pictured below. I have an e-mail in to him asking about them, but I'm not entirely sure he'll want to tell me where he got them from. We'll see.

please dont hate me forsaying this, but if someone offered me 1800.00 for that green guitar, well.............lets put it this way;
I wouldnt have a green guitar anymore.
maybe its sentimental. I can dig taht.

Re: What I've been up to in the last 2 months (Gretsch/Green Buddy content). Lots of

Dude Jerry, it'll take a lot more than that to make me hate you. :)

It's definitely the sentimentality. Not only does it matter to me, it matters to my girlfriend and someday (most likely) wife. This guitar is the link between her and guitars in general, this is what keeps her interested. And if I sold it, I'm not sure she would leave me, but she sure as hell wouldn't be happy.

Let's put it this way, one of my first tattoos will be this guitar, on my arm.

Re: What I've been up to in the last 2 months (Gretsch/Green Buddy content). Lots of

yeah green guitars are forever.

that's a pretty cool amp dude. those speakers are like what the ****...what's the wattage once you get it fixed? You're gonna use it for your sludge / doom project right?

if you needed to sell that blue Les Paul with the P90 in the neck and i had some cash layin around i'd be into it for sure, especially cuz you already ruined the finish and devalued it by putting that P90 in there. The Guilt-Free Gibson.

Thanks man! The speakers are nuts. Reconing should be fun. Wattage is 15-20 (can't remember). And actually, this amp sounds pretty fantastic with my dirt pedal through it. The Falcon blows it away clean, but this sounds pretty awesome with the dirt pedal. So I could conceivably use this for distorted music, as I have been.

About the Les Paul, I didn't change the finish at all when I put the P90 in. It was already like that! The joker who routed it for buckers did that to the finish long before me. The bucker ring covered it up though. I didn't do anything to it.

Truth be told, I love the P90 but I'm getting tired of looking at that ugly, ugly mess. We'll see.

Re: What I've been up to in the last 2 months (Gretsch/Green Buddy content). Lots of

Darn you, I think I'm going to have to pick up one of those cool little acoustics now, thought they looked sort of cool online, but now seeing one in an actual photo it looks even better.

At least of anything you could of cost me in this thread it was by far the cheapest option! lol

Re: What I've been up to in the last 2 months (Gretsch/Green Buddy content). Lots of

Yeah mills, they're pretty darn solid. I'd definitely recommend it.

I think you're in the minority though, lots of people want one of the other Gretsches or something, but you go straight for the $99 acoustic! :)

Re: What I've been up to in the last 2 months (Gretsch/Green Buddy content). Lots of

:) Thanks Creamothy. Like I told you, keep working on the Duo. It'll get there.

ahhh i don't care what kinda distortion pedal you're using bro, it's not gonna sound better than that thing fully restored and fully cranked :smokin:

Hah i know the finish and P90 were seperate incidents but you're always talkin about how cool you think the flaked-off funked-up finish is so i was makin a jab at that. So it was routed for P90's and you put a humbucker in there?

Well this is pretty incredible:

But I'm not sure it gets too much better than this:

It'll look good either way. Pickguard choice is key. With the Gold, what color guard? Also, are you going to be able to get nitro or is it gonna be poly?

Does Green buddy have a truss rod yet?

It always did. The nut broke off, so I simply can't adjust it. But it's stuck where it is, so like I said the neck isn't gonna snap or anything. I'm in talks with one of Captain Tightpants' friends, one of LA's first Custom guitar maker. He's talking to me about duplicating this neck with new rod/board/frets, etc. He's got a duplicator machine, so that would save money and it would come out perfect. We'll see.

I was a believer from the start.

Awesome news dude. :)

Thanks Russ! Appreciate it very much.

I agree 100%. I can have the Falcon on 10 with moderately hot pickups and it just starts to break up, one of the most awesome sounds I've ever personally played. I mean I've heard better - but I don't own a Marshall I can play. Get what I mean?

But yeah, the Gretsch cranked at the moment is about as loud as me talking. So at the moment, the pedal makes it wall-shaking loud and it sounds awesome. And this gives me hope that when she's restored, the speakers and tubes will be able to handle being on 10 and blowing my ears off. That's basically all I meant. I completely agree that she'll sound about 4 times better without the pedal when she's fixed up and on 10. Can't wait for that!

It's a Gibson Gem, so she was originally a P90 guitar. Some previous owner routed it. I love the finish checking and hate the poor routing job they did. I really like how screwed up the finish is in normal spots, like where your arm goes. But I really don't like how screwed up the pickup routings are. You can't see them when buckers are in, but when the P90's are in, it looks like ass.

Hey, Al, did you contact Roman? The last PM he sent me said he'd deffinatley be able to help you for way less than a grand. He liked the pic of the Buddy, too.

Re: What I've been up to in the last 2 months (Gretsch/Green Buddy content). Lots of

Yeah dude, I've been talking with him. He asked for some more pics of the neck last night, but he's sure he can give me a good deal. I'm looking forward to working with him, sounds like a super nice guy and his work is impeccable.

Thanks for the tip! I appreciate it

[blah blah old amps whose brand names match my guitars]

LP_Studio_Gem.jpg

hah all i know about those old combos is my buddy's 1950's Les Paul combo sounds like the roaring voice of God cranked up to about 5 so i mean...those old amps are awesome.

And that Les Paul is unbelievable, especially since it's been so totally screwed up and is blue as my balls. What pickups are in there now? I noticed it's P90 / hum (or INTERGALACTIC STONERFUZZ DOOM CONFIGURATION for short) in the pix and that shows incredible taste.

I'd be the coolest cat in town with a green SG and blue Les Paul...then i'd just need a purple V and an orange 335. You wouldn't happen to be looking for a Strat or two would you...:smokin:
