What speakers are in your 4x12 cab?

I got four V30's in my rector half stack. Yes it does high gain all right but just curious what others are doing with their 4X12.

Re: What speakers are in your 4x12 cab?

V30s in the Mesa Stiletto/Traditional cab. cleans are nice and "chimey" but overall it's a little on the bright side with a Stiletto head.

right now I need to sell my 4x12 and get something smaller - I'll probably try Celestion G12-65 Heritages next time around to take the edge off the top end.

Re: What speakers are in your 4x12 cab?

Still have the original Sheffields in my old Peavey. They're pretty nice under high gain but a little dark for most other styles. The cab is a tank, and super reliable, so I may have to put some Eminence speakers in there at some point.

Re: What speakers are in your 4x12 cab?

I sold all of my 4 x 12 cabs.

But back when I used to use them I felt that the Vintage 30 in a sealed 4 x 12 Marshall cab was a really great rig.

In an open back combo amp the V30 can sound a little to bright but in a sealed 4 x 12 cab they have a warmer top end and more bass.

I also like the Greenback 25 in a sealed 4 x 12 Marshall cab. Again: gives the Greenback more low end and smooths out the treble.

Those are the two speakers I've liked best in 4 x 12 cabs.

I'd be willing to bet I'd like a 4 x 12 cab with four G12H30's even more.

Greenbacks in all six Marshall cabs, some I had to change and sold the higher wattage Celestian's to help pay for Greenback replacements

Re: What speakers are in your 4x12 cab?

i had an old jcm 800 straight cab with g12-65 and slant that i got empty and put v30/g12h in an X pattern. those were awesome together. i used em mostly in a trio and would put the slant behind me and the straight on the other side of the stage. kicked ass but way to much to haul around.

if i were to do it again id do a straight cab with the g12h/v30 X pattern. a little more texture to the sound

Re: What speakers are in your 4x12 cab?

V30s in one and Eminence Man-O-Wars in the other. Man-O-Wars are similar to G12T-75s.

The V30 cab sounds good on it's own. The Man-O-War cab doesn't (too scooped). Combined they sound huge. I plan on replacing the Man-O-Wars with G12H-30s or Eminence Wizards.

Re: What speakers are in your 4x12 cab?

I have some Weber my tone recones.

I've got some frames that were originally G12-80s that Ted Weber reconed. All the voicecoils are G12-65s and the magnets are the heavy, but two speakers use the large dust caps with 75Hz cones and two use the small dust caps with 55Hz cones. They sound very thick kind of like a modern version G12Ms and G12M 55s. I run them in the X pattern too.

3 G12-65s and one Music Man 60 watt driver.

the 65s give me the chime so I can hear the cab accross the stage, and when i mic the cab, I put the mic on the MM speaker...it's a bit darker and smoother.

You're not ready to sell those Man-O-Wars, are you? I've got two 2x12 cabs that I plan on loading with one MOW and one Governor each.

Not yet.

Plus, new Eminence aren't all that expensive. Shipping a used pair to you would probably drive up the price too far.

Man - I love those G1265's but I didn't start using them until after I'd sold all of my 4 x 12 cabs. Seems like they would be awesome in a 4 x 12 though.

I have no idea who made the speakers in my old Music Man 4x12 but they are Alnico from what the specs say that I found online and the cab can handle up to 130 watts. It sounds great though. I love that cab.

they sound nice...crunchy if you need, and fat clean when you need. I didn't know the cab came with them till I changed the casters on the cab. I got the MM HD-150, cab with three 12-65s + 1 M speaker, and an acoustic bouzouki for $600...I could probably get $300 back out of the speakers if I ever sell.

I think instead I'll sell the 4x12 cab box, and put the speakers in 2 2x12 boxes...one for the MM and one for the Bassman.

If you ever decide to sell, I'd love to have first dibs...MM speakers sound GOOD.

You're probably right, seeing as you're in Canada and all.

I haven't found that ONE speaker that gets me and my Bogner where I like it... I tried the V30/G12T75 mix and it was great but the V30s were louder tham the t75's and I wanted more of an even volume setup, so a buncha bros on here steered me towards the Emi Governor/MOW combo, which is kind of their take on the V30 & T75 and the efficiency is a closer match on paper, so the volume SHOULD be more balanced between speakers. Destroying Angel has that combo in a 4x12 and likes it a lot.

I'm running V30s and MoWs now and the MoWs are noticeably quieter, but they cover such a different frequency range that they fill out the V30s nicely. Honestly, I'd keep them as they sound great together, but I want a second cab that'll hold it's own when used by itself... something the MoWs can't do on their own.

Well I know you like heavy tones, as do I, so keep us filled in when you find the speaker that works for you.

I have one in a modded Princeton Reverb and a pair in a Matchless 2 x 12 cabinet. They're also favorites of Robben Ford. We got good taste - you and I!
