what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

I believe in practicing with what I play out. I see no point in trying to dial in tones on a small amp that is a different brand than what I use. I want to know my gig amps inside and out, so that's what I practice on. Fortunately the Mesas sound good at low volume and the Mark Series amps have switchable power. Some amps I've used over the years like Peavey get loud really early in the dial, and my old JCM 800 Marshall sounded like crap at anything less than the MV on 5.

And volume is not usually an issue, nor is weight. We have a suburban house, no kids. Neighbors are close but as long as I don't get too loud late at night I'm good. For late, I've got my Martin dreads and they're plenty loud.

For guys in thin-walled apartments, or guys that have kids or a spouse doing shift work though, I get it. The guy living in a 5th floor walk-up isn't going to want to lug a Twin Reverb home every night.

I'm in a great situation, for sure.

EQ for a 15 db boost - reverb pedal - 12" cab with an Eminence Texas Heat.

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

^^ The very same. You know your receivers. An oldie but a goody.

I love that
A HoTone ,a Joyo EQ

Which HoTone is that Purple Wind?

Thanks. It's the "Mojo Diamond" their Fender Tweed emulation. All things considered I'm pretty impressed with it.

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

Have owned a BUNCH of amps over the years. Best rig I have ever worked with at low volumes in particular is the 25 watt Zinky Blue Velvet I own. Not just good but jaw dropping tones at a whisper but has enough punch to play out live unmiced and get above a loud drummer.
Agree on some of the Boogies also sounding pretty good at low volume and i also own a .50 cal + (NOT a solid low volume AMP BTW!!) and a little Subway Rocket 25 watt 1/10 combo.
That said nothing i have ever played/owned is better at low volume high gain tone than the little Zinky!
Example would be this live video. Tiny room electronic drums keys in the system super low volume and the amp is unmiced running no effects other than a little delay run here in the front of the amp and recorded off my video camera.

Micro terror gets the most use around here but I love the Mustang I have too

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

Easily my Mustang III.

Zillions of great sounds at low volume bedroom levels and zillions of great sounds at medium and not-so-medium volumes onstage as well.

(Although I only use four or five tones now that I have them programmed in...)

Mojo diamond. It's their tweed amp. No lie, if I was to move into a studio apt tomorrow, I'd probably buy one of these to compliment a decent cab and pedal arsenal. They sound good to my ears.

Edit: whoops, someone already answered. Nonetheless, it seems like the perfect sleeper amp.

My VOX Ac4tv head and Emenince 112 Private Jack for me. It's plenty loud and easy to use. But at the same time limiting, which can be a good thing.

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

I use either my Fender Blues Deluxe RI (with NOS 12AT7 in V1 to give better volume control) or VHT Special 6 Head and 1x12 cab with Eminence Red White & Blues ABY'd with Fender Mustang 3 v2 with Eminence Swamp Thang installed (Twin setting). Nice full wall to wall sound at low volume with 2 amps. Lots of OD pedals to fill my blues needs at low volume.

Also use Vox Night Train NT15HG2 head into Laney 2x12 cab with WGS ET65 and Retro 30 speakers.

Have a Quilter Mini 101 head as a back up. It sounds good through either cab at low volume as well.

I have enough variety to keep me satisfied.

"Mustang get 40"?

(Zooms in.)

Oh, GT40.

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

Honestly for bedroom setups, a digital setup like Bias FX or a good preamp in front of a speaker simulator is much better than any solid state or tube amp turned down low.

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

Another great bedroom amp, although simple (no modeling) is the Tech21 Trademark 10. It sounds great recorded, too via the XLR out.

that is a fantastic little amp. wish they didnt discontinue it so long ago

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

I use either a Randall RD1 or my Mercuriall U530 amp sim with a Randall Thrasher cabinet impulse from 3 Sigma Audio.

Depends how low volume you need. If I had to use earphones, I would go for micro terror, just for the simplicity and price. Spending a lot just for great tone with very low volume seems pointless. And I would really hate to have to open up computer when I want to play guitar.

But if you have the gear, why not.
