what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

And Vintage 30s take a lot of LOUD hours to break in. They tend to be harsh until thoroughly broken in.

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

The Vintage 30 is not very bedroom friendly. It is really loud: 100 db from 1 watt. Running a 5 watt amp through a Vintage 30 is like a 10 watt amp through a 97 db speaker. And 10 watts is already about 1/2 as loud as a 100 watt monster.

i don't know cos' 100w / 2= 50w and not 10w

what i can say is my Laney is a 15w amp : it can be loud but not so loud

but to protect the others from a loud sound, i use pedals and no problem =good sound and low volume or just enough

the sl5 can have a very low outpout and wattage : 1w but the sound will never be good enough
dark sound
so it can not be a rock amp like that

next try will be palmer 5
VHT
ht 1 metal ?
something like that

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

The loudness scale (dB) is logarithmic, and so is the correlation between power and loudness.

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

Those big ART rack pieces were life goals for me as a beginner back in the early 90's.

When I first started playing in '89, every kid I knew lusted for the latest racks and shred guitars. I wanted to enjoy the excess of metal for a few more years, but Kurt Cobain said otherwise......but only for a few years.

In the end, it didn't me affect at all in terms of the music I was playing/listening to, but it did affect the industry and the new gear it released.

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

I don't have an amp or guitar in my bedroom. I didn't even have a TV until this past Christmas, when I finally got a mini home theater setup to compliment my full stereo rig (the bedroom is for sleepin', readin', and makin' whoopee only).

But I do have a Mesa/Boogie MkIV combo in my living room. Even on Triode/Class A mode (15 watts), it is still too loud to fully enjoy R2 and Lead, however. I'm thinking an Orange Mirco something might be good for that role.

Re: what's your best amp for your bedroom ?

I use an engl ironball on the 5 watt mode but you can use it on the 1 watt mode if that floats your boat

The best amp for my bedroom is definitely a 100W JVM half-stack. Or a Danelectro N-10. But absolutely one of those two.

When volume is an issue- modeller. When no-one is home and during normal daytime hours = toobz

Tube amp throttled back with no speaker push and a bunch of buzzy pre-amp gain is about the worst thing ever.

JVM with a noise gate should keep the neighbors happy

Stopped by my favorite pawn shop a while back and spotted a mint Roland Street Cube. I was familiar with their regular Cube amps having bought and sold a Cube 15, a Cube 30 (which I should have kept!) and a few micro cubes. Went home, looked up the specs on the street cube, saw the retail price, street price and what they go for used. Got in my car, went back and bought it.

Killer home amp. Just enough amp sims and effects for me, plus it takes pedals well. Great blackface tones, JC tones, acoustic sim with Vox, Marshall and Boogie tones thrown in for good measure! I use the blackface setting 90% of the time and add a bit of reverb.

In addition, it has a second channel with a combo xlr/1/4" jack so you can either plug in a quality mic or use it for acoustic guitar, etc. In addition to running 16 hours on 6 AA batteries, you can use headphones, plug your MP3, phone, CD or Cassette player into it and play along. It's stereo, with two 6.5" speakers and a whopping 5 watts. For it's small size and weight, it kicks out impressive volume and excellent tones. I've even used it for a few small gigs run stereo with my other battery amp, (also a great bedroom amp) a Crate Taxi 30.

I've always liked Tech 21 Trademark 30 (or 10)

In all seriousness if you are thinking about putting an amp in your bedroom you have bigger issues to deal with.

Much love for this Roland Cube-40XL.
Its got some pretty darn good tones, gets quiet or loud, has very usable effects, and has a full 80 seconds of loop feature that is so much fun!

As of yesterday; this one - ran across this locally and played it enough to be impressed. Reminds me (as it should) very much of the 1978 Marshal JMP 50W 2x12 Greenback Equipped Combo I had for about 13 years. Tolex tears and grill cloth has some holes from the speaker mounting screws poking through; cosmetic wear from gigging but it sounds amazing!

1989 Marshall JTM 50 Tremolo Bluesbreaker Reissue (Model 1962 I think)

I'm the only person alive whose opinion matters about what my bedroom looks like. This is a terminal condition.
