A few years ago, I was checking out an Uberschall. Then the sales guy showed me the Diezel Einstein he had in stock. That thing was other-worldly.A Diezel Herbert is no slouch for more modern voicing. Haven't played their other models yet...
:lame:
Christian . . . i remember (probably a few years ago, by now) that you once said you liked the Hi-Gain tones of the VHT (back then) Pitbull UL, and that you also once nearly pulled the trigger on the amp.
I was very surprised to hear that you liked any hi-gain amps (...well, THAT hi-gain, anyways), and even more so that you even considered buying one !!!
What do you like about the VHT Pitbull UL dirt tones ?
I heard/read that the UL is a very dry sounding amp - any thruth in that ?
Cheers
I'd be thrilled to have one of those too! But what I really meant is that if I wanted a high gain amp, I'd like to take my silverface Princeton (a '69 or '70, maybe, no-reverb model) and do the Boogie treatment to it, the way it was done in the early days of the company. I like the look of the modded Fender, as opposed to the factory Boogie look. Also, is the Mk. I really the same amp as a Princeton Boogie? I didn't think they were exactly the same.
Would LOVE to have a MK I
I really want to try:
EVH 5150 III
Diezel VH4
Peavey 5150 (even I'm surprised I haven't tried one)
Mesa Road King
Soldano Hot Rod
Randall Satan or Thrasher
Rhodes Colossus or Gemini
Mesa Mark 5
Splawn Nitro
Engl Savage or Engl Ironball
Bogner Helios
And the list goes on.
Lots to try, it sucks having no good music stores around.
You could always try looking for decent studios and become buddies with the people that run them. Usually they will have a classic amp or two laying around for recording. It's what I did, and I always suggest starting with classic amps. You'd be pleasantly surprised what you could get out of an AC30.
And the EVH 5150 III and the Peavey 5150/6505 aren't going to be much different (to my knowledge, I'm just going by name alone). So that shortens the list!![]()
I don't drift to high gain amps but when I did I loved the VHT Pitbul UL and it was that very articulate, punchy dry sound...it's not for everybody but I dig it!
All this MK I talk makes me wonder...is that rally a high gain amp today??
I used to have one, odd ball piece with a factory EVM15L (not the usual 12!).
It was a cool amp but to b e honest it didn't have as nice a clean tone as a good Fender amp, the drive sound was cool but not amazing and going from one sound to the other was not very easy...very un-user friendly amp overall.
I think the Mark I is still high gain, just more of a fat 70s sound than a modern, punchy, crunch/chug sound.
