Where did all the SG owners go ?

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

My "wife" SG ('78 Standard) has stock pups in it, but my second favorite guitar has a Duncan Invader in the bridge with a Gibson Dirty Fingers at the neck. It has a great tonal spectrum.

What do you think ?
I LIKE IT !

James

ahh the SG-I....hah an SG-X with no pickguard. i dig 'em but the only SG's i want these days are ether a black Standard, a black SG-3 with the three gold humbuckers, or an SG-X in yellow or blue...

i'd rather get a V or a Telecaster first tho...haha variety!

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

hey, man I have a gibson sg standard w/490 in the neck and a dirty fingers in the bridge. The tone is to die for. I bought it like this. I play country, classic rock, some heavy stuff and the dirty fingers fits the bill. I use mosly lite overdrive like a blues driver and it gets crunchy. blows my buddy's lp studio out of the water.

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

I love my SG. SG = R'n'R. put a plain jane set of '59s in her, turn up the volume and you're one of Those About To Rock.

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

hail satan. 666. worst night of my life. the power of the riff compels me...i love my green SG.

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

Thank you GUYS !

Keep 'em comming - if there is anymore SG owners on here :D
Or is this everyone ?

James

I have an Epiphone G-400 SG and totally dig it and just about any SG variant thereof (Gib or Epi). I LOVE the way this axe feels to play and the tone, the rioght amount of mid honk with just atouch of upper-end bite.

Personally, I'd go with some '59's

here's my Guitar of the Week SG

sounds too bright with the stock pickups.. maybe it's the ebony board.. thinking of throwing in a '59 set.. or maybe a brobucker or C5 in the bridge and a PG in the neck

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

We rediscovered our fender guitars and sent Gibson right out the front door.

whoops, thats just me!

Fender forever.

Oh my God, you're my evil twin!

Gibson perfected electric guitars; you Fender guys are in a state of denial. That some guys have done amazing things with them, doesn't alter the fact that they were designed to be cheap to manufacture, with tone as an afterthought. In the 1950's they set a new low in luthier standards & horrified the other manufacturers with their crude designs. Them's the facts son.

Hawt!

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

I had a Gibson LP/SG Custom and bought a few different boutique pickups for it. What did I like best? Honestly, the stock Gibson Classic '57s rocked the best. The higher output, the warm Alnico II magnets, it just made the thinner sound of the SG, well, fatter and richer. If I were to buy an SG again, I would definitely load them up with '57s again.

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

What are the stock pups in that?

stock for an SG standard.. 498 T in the bridge and 490 R in the neck.. right now the guitar is pretty bright but can get really intense Angus Young type tones.. although it's real fun to play, I just don't write music with tones like that.. I'm looking for something that can handle the lows from my mesa roadster "modern" channel and then be able to do clean, almost chimey tones in the clean channel

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

I wanna be a SG owner. Robbie Krieger...the Doors,Carlos Santana...The first Album
John Cippolina...Quicksilver Messenger Service ( with a Bigsby, his so identifyable style)
Anybody able to get the Robbie and Carlos Tones? I pick up a new SG every one and a while at Guitar Center...Not even close. The late sixties had that tone even unplugged.
Closest I have come to that tone is playing Bluesman "Little Joe Blue's" Firebird back in 1972. He and L.C. "Good Rockin" Robinson let me tune their guitars when I was in the house band in Berkeley I was 18 years old.

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

I didn't post this at the same time I posted my G400 because it's not really an SG, it just sort of looks like one. The thread does remind me that I need to get a nut on it. It's a travesty that it's been sitting in the case, finished for months, without final set up.

Ans yes, I just posted a bolt-on "SG." :D

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

I would butcher an SG. I would get the epi custom 3 pickups, replace the neck with maple ( if possible ) get a Single coil pickup ring for the bridge and put in a tele pickup, a phat cat for the middle and 59b for the neck.
