Why Aren't there More Female Guitar Players, Especially Electric?

Re: Why Aren't there More Female Guitar Players, Especially Electric?

I love it when a self-proclaimed scientist uses the words "theory" and "proven" in the same sentence while ridiculing others' scientific validity.

Even more intriguing is the continued use of the word "science" in a discussion about personal preferences regarding artistic endeavors.

Re: Why Aren't there More Female Guitar Players, Especially Electric?

I'm sorry, but if you did not know the NYD were not female, please exit the internet.

The opening question was about females playing ELECTRIC guitar, yet people have posted ACOUSTIC players. Stop. While SD does make pickups for acoustic instruments, and yes, you can get acoustic-electrics, stop posting links or names of any female player who is not known to play a solidbody electric guitar or semi-hollow electric (e.g. 335, Emperor/Sheraton, et. al.). Yes, we now there are tons more female acousticians than electricians. SFW.

This was not a "Post pic of chicks with geetars" anyway. It was a simple question of "why don't females gravitate toward the electric guitar like males do, and how do we as marketeers convince them that they need to?"

Stick to that topic, and drop the pissing contest you sad sack of whining ninnies.

Re: Why Aren't there More Female Guitar Players, Especially Electric?

Same thing was once said about girls and cars. You know how many girls are in the Ford Mustang community getting their hands dirty building their own engines and whatnot these days? Lots. I know girls who would prefer car parts and gift certificates to Summit Racing and American Muscle over flowers and candy. There are some SICK cars out there built and driven by girls.

Girls playing guitar will change once society stops telling them it's a boy thing.

There are the same proportion of grease monkey women as shred chics. Very very few.

Weak example is weak and supports the basic assertions. Dudes dig mechanicals and chics dig biologicals. We are different and no amount of marketing will change that.

Sometimes I just want to reach into the computer and smack you. Yeah lets stop teaching piano, percussion and clarinet. Bob do yourself a favor, turn off the hair metal and listen to a bit of Jazz tonight.

Bruce, I frickn' love Jazz. Monk, 'Trane, Miles, etc…Di Meola, Corea, and everything in between. Been pimp[in' Stanley Jordan vids around the office.

(Also been listening to Air Supply a lot….that's another issue)

But teaching kids to play Sousa tunes in a school band ain't jazz, and for every one it gets there, I think it gets 100 to never want to play again.

A reminder for those who still think guitar is a man's game:
Cathy Carter Duncan

She and Seymour started this company, together.
She is one of the two most important females in this organization, with MJ a close second.

Let's keep Cathy and MJ in mind, when posting further comments.

They are hardly the same thing. Not in the same Ballpark. Not even the same game.

To the best of my knowledge, neither is even a mediocre guitar player.

Re: Why Aren't there More Female Guitar Players, Especially Electric?

Can anyone really tell us why there are not a lot of female guitarists? I don't think so. I don't think it really even matters. Lets just enjoy and celebrate unconditional camaraderie among all guitarists no matter what the color, race or sex of the musician is. As musicians, especially the rock musicians names and tags are often applied to us. I see no need to further segment our association. We have done that enough ourselves not only with our theories of what gear works best. But going as far as dividing metal guitarists into 50 ridiculous different genres, Djent? Really? This is what I hope to see in the future. All of us united male, female, metal and jazz under one banner called guitarists.

There is no ONE reason. There many and complex interactions.

And I actually like Djent, now that I know what it is…

Don't be a boob.

This is the kind of sexist misogynistic BS that keeps woman from playing guitar right here.

I am OFFENDED. How dare you use the word BOOB to imply idiocy. This is the kind of negative stereotyping that has made women loathe to even walk into a GC. You thinking nothing of implying that having breasts is synonymous with being an idiot.

Would a Mod please delete Steve's post incase a woman actually makes it past page two of this thread!

Re: Why Aren't there More Female Guitar Players, Especially Electric?

If a woman played guitar and there wasn't a man around to hear it, would he still be wrong?

Yes;

First of all, because she was playing and he wasn't paying attention.

Next, because if he did say she was great, and she felt that he was saying she was playing well just because that's what she wanted to hear, he was lying to her.

Then, if she did mess up, and he told her that a particular chord or note made her sound bad, she would pitch a fit because she just wanted affirmation that he loved her by saying she didn't look fat - I mean sounded good, even if it was horrible.

Excellent Idea Bruce!

Wow, 10 posts in a row. That's quite an entrance, Ace.

I'm not sure there is much more I can say other than what I've already said. I think it's going to be linked to the motivations of people who do play and don't play and how those motivations are represented with women.
