Wife said too many guitars

Re: Wife said too many guitars

Because Wife Math says:
X = ideal number of guitars
Z = current number of guitars
therefore X = Z x 0

Re: Wife said too many guitars

Well, I would say two can play this game–shoes alone and don't even get started on jewelry ;) lol

If your guitar buying is hurting your finances then she has a point as a couple.

If her spending is hurting your finances then the guitars are not the problem.

If y'all are just in a bind and need funds (not because of wasteful spending or any specific fault,) then both of you should check on what can be sold/cut to help. Marriage is a partnership in life, both should work together.

Re: Wife said too many guitars

IMHO; the "too many guitars" statement is nothing more than a control issue/power struggle in the relationship...if there isn't a financial strain being brought on by purchasing said guitars.

Disclaimer: This opinion is based upon the experience of a man who has had two marriages-a "first" marriage and a "last" marriage. ;)

there's no such thing as too many guitars. Women shouldn't ***** about it.

Re: Wife said too many guitars

In this gender-sexual-political currency system, this is power that I'm simply not going to trade away. Keeping it has been expensive for me, but I'd like to think that, in a healthy relationship, it wouldn't have to be.

Re: Wife said too many guitars

Glad I live alone.

I remember my ex saying that I should sell a guitar or two and buy her something nice. And then after we broke up I bought a new guitar.

Re: Wife said too many guitars

So I said pick out a few to get rid of and bring them to me to see...

She spent ½ hour bringing them all into the living room!

i say.. wipe her mind so she forgets the error of her request... either jedi mind trick or CIA psychiatrist (reference: american dad episode)

just a thought

Re: Wife said too many guitars

It's pretty simple actually - some "partners" go gaga because you play an instrument, want you to write them a song, etc and "support your hobby". That is, until they realize it is an actual hobby/passion you have - not some means you came up with to seduce them - and God forbid you'll be unable to give them less than 110% of your attention span (only a measly 99%).

That's why I stay out of any romantic relationships - I don't need someone that's just going to have unrealistic expectations for me, and try to micromanage every aspect of my life. F that ****. Keep the guitars as long as you can afford them, and you're not wasting your partner's money. Trying to change people and what they love is BS.

Re: Wife said too many guitars

Or it's a joke thread and he used it as an excuse to get them all in the living room for a photo.
Like we need one.

Re: Wife said too many guitars

Not all spouses are anti-guitar or anti-hobby. My wife is very supportive. My guitar stash went from a couple modest instruments to well over a dozen with most being higher end or booteek instruments. She's never encouraged me to downsize and has even tried to talk me out of selling gear I didn't use. She's been supportive when I disappear for a week to go to guitar workshops and didn't object when I attended one over her birthday (and our kid's first week of school).

I realize that she's exceptional in that respect but she's also proof that not every significant other is going to try to eliminate music from your life.

Re: Wife said too many guitars

Every single man needs a hobby/passion for his own well-being, stress outlet, and peace of mind - and, so long as it's not causing a strain on family finances nor causing him to neglect his husband/fatherly duties, the smart wife will strongly encourage a passion in music. So long as it doesn't become all-consuming nor harmful in some strange way, music is an exceptionally healthy outlet. And much, much better, than getting a younger secret girlfriend...

Re: Wife said too many guitars

Yeah, teach her how to play. Tell her if she learns to play a song with you, you will buy her a guitar. Takes care of itself.
