But, there is another issue here, and I've seen this with several guys I've known in the biz.

They have a bunch of guitars and gear, always top quality. They hunt, fish, own a boat and do expensive car customization. Their hobbies come first, and everybody else gets hind tit. I've seen their kids in rags, without proper dental care, and wornout shoes; wives scrimping by because they have inadequate food budgets. Bills get shuffled around and payments are late, but if he "needs" a new guitar or amp...he gets it. IRA, or 401K? Forget it. He needs to get to his "creative" space, and while everyone else suffers, he's making sure that he always has enough booze/coke/H/meth/ecstasy to live "the rock and roll lifestyle".

So yeah...If any of this crap is going on in your life...you've got too many guitars. And a lot of problems. Better get an attorney...one of these days the wife will be getting all the guitars in the divorce. If this is you...WAKE UP!

I'm very fortunate to have a lot of wonderful guitars and I'm very blessed with a supportive spouse. I made my living playing music, and it's my only hobby. And I've never been one to "live the life".

Time to take an honest assessment of your life and your relationship. Communicate. This could prove to be one of the greatest opportunities of your life. Don't blow it.

And do it now...before you get the old "Kosmic Kick In The Derriere".

So I said pick out a few to get rid of and bring them to me to see...

She spent ½ hour bringing them all into the living room!

Sounds like my wife tho. Pick out " a few" and out comes EVERY LAST ONE.. She grumbles cuz I have 4 in the house. If she saw my storage shed, Id def be served....

But.. I dont "live the life", my wife and kids have always come first, even if it meant working 3 jobs, so it shouldnt be a problem..

Glad I live alone.

I remember my ex saying that I should sell a guitar or two and buy her something nice. And then after we broke up I bought a new guitar.

Not all spouses are anti-guitar or anti-hobby. My wife is very supportive. My guitar stash went from a couple modest instruments to well over a dozen with most being higher end or booteek instruments. She's never encouraged me to downsize and has even tried to talk me out of selling gear I didn't use. She's been supportive when I disappear for a week to go to guitar workshops and didn't object when I attended one over her birthday (and our kid's first week of school).

I realize that she's exceptional in that respect but she's also proof that not every significant other is going to try to eliminate music from your life.

^^ This. Sounds must like my wife and it makes life much more enjoyable. I therefore support her hobbies of candle making and jewelry making. We have thousands of beads that will never be used, but beads are way cheaper than guitars. And like someone said earlier, I'd trade all of my guitars for my wife if it ever came to that.

Ironically, it's probably due in part to the fact that she wouldn't ask you to make such a choice unless there was some urgent financial reason.
