So what amps do you guys all like fairly well that are priced reasonably low? Lets keep the ceiling at $400.

For $400 I'd take a Line 6 Flextone II head or a Marshall VS100R head.

How about you?

Re: Your favorite "cheap" amps...

Early Silverface Bassman amps, with enough left over for a Tubescreamer. :)

Re: Your favorite "cheap" amps...

I got my crate vfx5112 for a little under $400 at GC's green tag sale a few years ago. I almost hate to admit it, but it's my favorite amp still that I've played over the past few years. I love it.

Re: Your favorite "cheap" amps...

The Smokey amps are great little amps, and you can stick them in your pocket.

For a little biger amp, I like the Roland Cubes. I'm a tube snob, myself, but for a solid state amp these are pretty nice. Decent tone and very loud.

Re: Your favorite "cheap" amps...

Peavey Classics
Traynors
Sovtek
Yamaha T-100/50
Vox Valvetronix AD60 head or combos
L6 Flextone heads/combos
Carvin Legacy
Peavey 5150 used.
Marshall JCM 900's used
Fender Silverface's, even better if they've been blackfaced or re-capped.
Fender Devilles and Hotrod Devilles
Outdated Mesas like MK1-4, Subways, 50 Cal, scuffed and dinged, but good.

Re: Your favorite "cheap" amps...

those early mig50 amps are great and can be had dirt cheap

Re: Your favorite "cheap" amps...

Trace Elliot Velocettes
Fender Blues Juniors
Peavey Classics

Re: Your favorite "cheap" amps...

I'm admittedly Mesa biased (no pun intended), so the first things that I thought of were the Subway Rocket and the old 22 Caliber series amps.

Re: Your favorite "cheap" amps...

SOUND CITY
and Laney Pro Tube after hearing TO's clip.
and Silverface Fenders.

Re: Your favorite "cheap" amps...

Traynors, the mentioned Crates, old Peavey tube amps, PODxt's.

Re: Your favorite "cheap" amps...

Get a nice little 15 watt laney mrk II, put in some new tubes and turn her all the way to 11.
