i just put my combo up on a chair or stool if i need more elevation, what also works is putting your 2x12 sideways so its vertical-works surprisingly well.

Re: 2x12 or 4x12?

my friend played his 2x12 in a band where the other guitarist had a 4x12. Bad idea. you can't hear the 2x12 (other guitarist had best intentions...)

this also happened to another friend.

Except for a few bands, most around socal play 4x12s. just the standard. You can hear a 2x12 in a small club setting, but it depends on the type of music/crowd/amp elevation/micing(?)...you get the picture (many factors). I think 2x12s are cool personally because if you get one, you can bring another as the backup amp, and/or plug both in simultaneously (think STP with vox...) For serious gigs when using a tube amp, you should have a backup or at least spare tubes IMO.

Happy Dude's main point:

Think long term. If you are ever in a band with another guitarist that plays out of a 4x12, you will want the 4x12...and you can always turn it down :laugh2:

I would say it's more of a space issue than weight issue. Unless you are the only one in the band, which wouldn't be much of a band with just one person, there will always be more than yourself moving it. Two people can easily carry a 412. Looking at the Avatar site, the 212s have the same width and depth of a 412, and the 412 is only 9-10 inches taller. Unless you have limited space to move or store or have limited stage space... I personally would go 412. If space is limited a good quality 212 should have the same tonality of a 412. Either way, it will be good :)

I'm just a sucka for the 412 mojo myself... it's a curse...

I guess that wasn't much help... but something to think on. Two 212's will take more space than one 412.

A closedback 2X12 will be ok. But, if you want that deeper thicker tone and air movement and projection for hard rock or metal you'll need a 4X12.

I agree with all points mentioned.
I entertained the idea of 2 212's. However, I'm thinking I'll have one 212 and one 412...

Re: 2x12 or 4x12?

Definately a 4x12!

I'm currently touring using my Bogner with a closed back 2x12 Celestion 70/80ies and the other amp is a Marshall JCM900 with a 1960B 4x12. The Bogner sounds still cuts through with ease, the Marshall sounds more wide open. Great combination but I'm still saving up for a 4x12 Ubershall cab to get more low end and air moving. :headbang:
