JCM 2000 TSL 100...wow! I have no idea how I will use this...but for amazing Marshall sound, this amp has it...and man, it is loud!

Re: A very rare NAD for me...

I will ask a couple of questions:

#1 Why?!?!?!?!?!?!?

#2 How much?

Re: A very rare NAD for me...

I gotta say: of all the people who could have posted a nad about a TSL, you're the one I would've least expected to.

Congrats!

Re: A very rare NAD for me...

Right?

A student of mine, a retired Navy Seal, has a garage full of gear, and his wife just wanted it gone. I got a great deal, and figured I could sell it if I never used it. But crazy, right?

Re: A very rare NAD for me...

You were drinking when you bought it. We can tell from the sideways pic.

But...that thing can make some hella clean sounds with awesome headroom and a nice knob controllable overdrive...you don't HAVE to use the 3rd channel!

Great base for playing anything really...

It's surprising how much ground you can cover with the crunch channel, which is honestly, seriously good. For more, it takes pedals well. I used to use a Mesa V-Twin, a Vox ToneLab (loop in), and -- most ironically -- a Tone Bone Hot British. All in all, I never would have sold mine if I hadn't needed to buy a car quite suddenly.

Wow! Wasn't expecting that monster from Mr. "I like to carry my rig from my car to the stage in one walk" here, haha. :D

I have to say I played a TSL100 stack a couple of times in a rehearsal room and thought it sounded like butt, but I didn't really fiddle too much with it and we weren't playing too loud.
I'm guessing it comes alive when you open it up the way it's meant to be?

I'm really impressed man, bold move but it's a sure winner from what you tell us, so that's cool!

Re: A very rare NAD for me...

Seeing as how you cut your teeth on Deep Purple, Sabbath, and lots of classic metal, I'm sure you'll get yer' ya ya's out on that thing. I'm also sure you'll make better use of the FX loop than most TSL owners.

Modelers do a lot more, but there's something about the grunt and dynamic range of tubes that's hard to duplicate.

Marshall is notorious for biasing those amps cold, so you should open the little panel on the back, and either hook it up to a volt meter, or turn the lights out, and bias it by ear. Observe the glow on the tubes and listen for the sweet spot at stage volume....tweak by ear.

I live six miles from there. He better get there before me. My Stiletto would be awesome through that!

You might want to swap the speakers first. The Stiletto isn't exactly the same, but Rectos sound like grainy a$$ through T75s.

I used to use a similar method to bias my 2555; I'd use a multimeter to get it in the ballpark and would fine-tune by ear. I found out that I like that amp @ 36ma per tube, so I just use the multimeter now.

Re: A very rare NAD for me...

I want a "Dave Shreds" video!!!!!

Haha, considering I grew up listening to Blackmore, John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth and Steve Morse, I got that covered! I have to say, though...power chords sound amazing on this thing. It was stored for a little while, so I am having a great amp tech I know go over everything this coming week and give me the all clear- if there is anything wrong I don't know about, I don't want to do further damage if there happens to be any issues. You never know with a used tube amp. The TSLs have a little history of some biasing issues, too. So I should have the 'all clear' by next weekend.

Re: A very rare NAD for me...

Man that's so awesome you got that!
I was surprised as the picture was loading once I saw that white piping against the black tolex, then of course, the unmistakable Marshall gold... Good move having it gone over asap.
I'd be tempted to have new tubes put in it anyway just to hit the "re-set button" so to speak, however if it checks out ok and you were planning on flipping it, then there's no need for the extra expense as you're full aware I'm sure...
I always did that with every tube item I bought and I'd write down the dates and other info so I had a data sheet for my own personal use and to help combat my sometimer's disease. 12ax7's plug and play, so those are almost too tempting not to mess with, so being I'm able to do that myself I'm all over it and usually have several matched and mismatched pairs that I'll go through just to see what "colors" I have to work with.
Hope it all checks out ok for you, and you get to jam out on it soon! Thanks for sharing!

Re: A very rare NAD for me...

You explained "why" but not "how much"

Should we suffice to say that if we knew, the police would be notified?

You & Julie should do "Going Under" by Evanescence using that....

Re: A very rare NAD for me...

Well, lets say I got the 'I am your guitar teacher' discount. Bob, you need one of these. Perfect for anything from 1983-2000.
