I got it from Dave's Guitars in WI. Dave had a close relationship with Gibson before they screwed their on-line dealers and he used to get some cool stuff. He was talking to his rep one day who mentioned they had them and did Dave want them? I should have bought all three. But I ended up selling it off to a fellow SD forum member.

Daves is amazing. I go there pretty regularly....even though I have no money.

Really great customer service.....

How about one that got away?

Big subdivision yard sale today. I forgot about it until my wife had to drop the kids off at their friend's and mentioned it when she got back. Head out looking for guitars. Everyone I ask said some scruffy little guy had been by much earlier looking, but no they didn't have any.

Finally one guy tells me this is going to make me sick. He had an American Strat from his first wife of 15 years. Horrible marriage. Sounded like she even hit him with the guitar a few times. This guy is loaded with tats and piercings. His new wife is there. His father is there. None of them are contradicting the story. So this scruffy guy comes by and the tat man hates the memories this guitar brings so much that he sells it to the guy for, now get this...not the $75 he was asking - hard shell case included, but the $50 that the guy offered him for it. I drilled him to make sure it was a U.S. and not a MIM. Yep, former wife's dad was part owner in Chateau Elan Winery. I told him he could have gotten a minimum of $700 on Craig's list.

I hope he wasn't jerking my chain.

Next time I'm getting out first thing in the morning.

Hidden away in the amp room at the Portland GC was a little dusty gem: 1960 Silvertone 1471(about 5-6 watts, 1-6v6, 1-12ax7, tube rectifier, 8" speaker)$25 out the door. It had been sold before and was returned because of intermitant power. I took it as is and looked it over and found that the 12ax7 had a broken pin and would break connection periodically. Replaced the tube and speaker.....played it for a year or so then sold it for $250 on fleabay. My buddy picked up a steal on a nearly mint condition '68 Princeton for $150. The only issue was that it was missing the PT. So for another $30 he had a almost perfect '68 Priceton(blackface circuit). He's always running across deals like this, makes me sick! LOL!

I got a Schecter c1 artist for $405. The price may not seem like a tremendous bargain from normal, but that is a heck of alot of guitar for the price! Even at musicians friends normal $499. This is the only truly plug and play guitar Ive ever had. I added straplocks, and did a mild set up.. But the pups are duncans, (jb and 59) the keys are grover, the bridge is tonepros, fretwork good and it sounds huge. Tons of tones from the 5 way..
Makes me wonder.. If Id have had a guitar like this for my first, if Id have ever wanted another...???

Here's a little salt for the wound, that 54 was the lightest Les Paul I've ever owned. I would say barely 8 lbs. It was some serious nice, warm, and light mahogany.

Jackson JS20 I bought for $60 --- I like the way it plays better than my MIA Strat

Squier '51 I got as a gift, woulda been $99 - was my GO-TO for months

Found a '73 Les Paul Deluxe in a pawnshop in Louisville, KY, it was so grungy I had actually spit in my handkerchief and rub the headstock to see if it was a Gibson. Got it for $300 no case. The strings were actually tied on behind the bridge-like a classical guitar. Cleaned up great, put Seymourized mini-pups in it. played it for 10+ years. I sold it a couple of years ago for $1500 (wife wanted an arena for horse riding-I sold many guitars). Oh, well, I enjoyed it while I had it. Also bought a '95 Gibson ES-335 for $500 at local music store. My current "best-deal" is a Peavey Wolfgang Special I found at a pawn shop, they wanted $400 (w/OHSC). The salesman was new, I hesitated, he said Let me go see what he'll take....It came home with me for $235. I STILL play that one.
I think the best one I.ve seen here was the free ES-175,
WOW , now that's a deal!
