Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

+1 I like having options, even if they're not to my liking.

Its nice to see Gibson think outside of the box.

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

has a Floyd and a swiss-cheese slab of mahogany . . . er . . . I mean "weight relieved" body?

wonder how much of that nice fat LP tone is left :smack:

the Carvin CT single cut has a pretty nice contoured heel (not quite as sculpted as this one put pretty low profile). the electronics aren't quite up to par but you can get those for half the price of that LP. And you can choose a Floyd or Wilkinson if you really want to.

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

I like it alot, but realisically, it should be only $200 more than a comparable Standard- not in the $3400 range. The belly carve and contoured neck joint are likely CNC done and don't require any more man hours, as with the routing for the Floyd and nut. So you're left with the increase in price for the Floyd.

I saw one in person, it was beautuful, I drooled, but $3400 is just ridiculous.

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

Gibson's innovation: throw a pre-existing trem on a classic design. Done!

That's not really innovation, it's just rehashing some old crap. It would be nice if they actually came out with a new body style, or pioneered a way to make their guitars sound more consistently good.

There has to be a new way to make a Les Paul, with more common woods or in a different way, that will make it less expensive and sound similar. Why don't they ever look into that, instead of just coming out with the same junk? It's like they have zero ability to engineer anything new or worthwhile.

Easy, put a different brand name on the headstock. Part of the price you're paying is to have the word Gibson at the end of the neck, that's just the way it is. If you want a Gibson bad enough, you'll pay the asking price. Countless people prove that to be true every year.

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

I gotta say I like this better than the robot guitars. I actually think this is not a bad addition to the line, which will reach some players that would want something like this. It is better than the reverse V, the holy V, or the robots....but it still doesn't bring my faith back in gibson. Pass.

Im with you.. I would like this. Lp chunk with a whammy option! I get this on my Washburn Steve Salas', but this is cool to see. I Lester you can burn on..

I dont like the traditional bursts on this tho. IMO, needs a solid color like black.

they do offer this model in black.
however if i was in the market for something like this i'd just opt for a carvin cs4, you can order them personalized, with the option for a floyd or wilkinson as mentioned above.

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

Let me see:
An LP with better access to the higher register: Check
A belly cut (I would have also preferred a forearm cut but that's just me being picky): Check
A trem-route INSTEAD (I hope) of the weight-relief thingy: Check (again, I hope)
A Floyd Rose (ok, while I LOVE the things personally I'd have used a dive-only Wilky or sth similar myself but again, we can't be picky): Check.
The typical expected price for a Gibson one-off-thingy: Check.

I honestly don't see what you're complaining about. It's not as if they stopped making the same thing since Les Paul himself.

If it were me I'd have preferred a less-shreddy trem (just because I think it'd suit it better), possibly a forearm contour and probably for about 1500-2000 less but, yeah, you guessed it, that's just me being picky :D

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

That's a Les Paul I would buy (if I had the $$$)... it needs the split diamond logo on the headstock - badly.

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

This guitar has been out for a while.

It's a nice guitar but not my thing.

I prefer Les Pauls to be Les Pauls and Jackson Soloists to have Floyds.

+1. Put a Floyd, HSS, and a 5-way on an SG ("Super SG"), not a LP.

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

Ever been in the same room with a Floyd?

A Floyd block is too tall for a SG. Now, one of those DC LP's would have been cool with a FLoyd, but, in my book, Gibby gets an A for effort and a B for execution (make it a solid color and cut $600 from the price tag).

BTW, they still sound very much like a Paul.

if the block were too tall for an sg, how come tony iommi uses one on his current sg:naughty:

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

Thousands less with the Contoured Neck???

Please tell me where!

Cause thats my main problem with Les Pauls but this is the first production guitar i know that has the heel sculpted...

Try a Carvin! You can all the options you want with those characters, and then drop in your favorite pickups later!

+1. All those colors that gibson is dropping on robots would better serve this guitar. I would like to see this in hot rod red with chrome overtones.

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

Kool, I won't buy it, but a Schon style LP is koolness...ditto on some kustom colors.

oh yeah!! LP with a sustainer?? Sustain eternal. Id write a song thats the opposite of steve morse's Tumieni (sp?) notes. 2few notes. have one note and hold it for 3 minutes ...

Well genius, that would be because Floyd offers 3 different block lengths. 32, 37, and 42mm. I'm betting Iommi has a 32 on his SG and that was probably still a little too long. So I'd bet, it being Iommi and all, he had his tech grind the block down a bit and re drill the holes for the spring mount.
