Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

Just did one last Sunday night. Most of the gigs I do at at bars but my band does a few casuals during the summer. And yes, I get paid. (it ain't a lot) :)

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

I haven't had a paid gig or show in a while. Part of it is that my band before the one in this one broke up at the two month mark just as we were ready to start doing shows. I had learned over two hours of solid alternative rock covers, all radio hits (shudder), and then the guy who started the band decided to take off. It took the rest of us a small chunk of time to figure out what had happened as well.

My present band is pretty much ready to go as soon as we find a new bass player.

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

yes we gig (that's where all the fun is...) some times we get paid :) (not much=50€ each band member ) sometimes not :fing25: ..........but we always DRINK A LOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTT and for FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE :smash: :headbang: :headbang: :smash: :chairshot :wizard:

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

we gig out once a week...sometimes twice...make about $600 a show

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

I've been a "weekend warrior" for years, it can be fun or miserable. Did a gig once where they advertised us as a Swing band, the youngest person in the audience must been about 70. Played Mack the Knife through a tremoverb. :laugh2:

Nothing that pays the bills right now, but I´m doing the best I can to change that ;)

by Canadian standards this is great pay. That works out to about $150CAN...

The average weekend gigger (playing rock standards) is payed $100-150CAN.

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

i've never played anywhere that payed me, ive only done 3 house shows and a few school events. I want to play somewhere but my extremely under-ambitious bandmates beg to differ.....

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

I used to play in a working band... didn't have much fun.. I can't speak for everyone, but it became a grind, with too many restrictions and regimented format. The non-paid gigs of late have been a lot more interesting.. basically play for beer and guest list..

Fortunately, I never quit my day job :saeek: :laugh2:

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

I play in covers bands. Typically earn about £40 ($72) per gig, based on sharing £200 between a 5-piece band. Should get a smaller band! I play for the love of it, so the money is a by-product. I'll play for free if it's for a good cause or looks like being good fun. :)

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

i gig fairly regularly and usually not for less than $100 a man. it isnt alot but hauling gear is a pain in the ass and i dont think $100 a man is unreasonable. i do free gigs sometimes but very seldom, usually for a good cause or because i want to share the stage with someone cool. not counting my weekly jam i probably do 4-10 gigs a month.
playing out is the fun part, the rest is just preperation

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

We do play quite a few shows for free, as we're still trying to get our name out, but we've had a few paying gigs, and have a few lined up this summer, no bars, because we are too young, but sometimes people rent out a venue then pay to have us come play:)

Rock ON :headbang:

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

every week for the last 3 yrs or more...rarely paid.. trying to get a name out there... finally got a cd so just trying to sell them now..

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

Our band has never actually had a real PAYING gig, we've just managed to get free food and drinks. Of course all we've done is some school coffee houses and this big thing called LancerStock, where a whole bunch of bands play for a crowd. Like others have said, the money is just an extra, it's fun in general to gig.

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

I have two gigs on Friday and one on Sunday.....

....I usually gig a couple times a month on average....

....oddly enough, they're as a drummer. I really need to put something together as a guitarist though.

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

Just left a band in NC.... We gigged at least once a week, if not twice... Usually around $100 per person... We have a 5 piece band that plays for cover... If we were able to get the sun aligned with the moon, and control the ebb and flow on the Atlantic Tides, we could manage to get $400 per person... Only happened once!!! But I truly felt like a rock star standing in the spotlight in front of nearly 2000 people (I'd love to say screaming fans, but it was a festival, they were there for the general experience of the 5 different bands)... We had the best showtime... From 8:00-11:30pm... The sun had just gone down, but everyone wasnt completley obliterated... While we quickly tore down our set, you could see so many people stumbling and fighting... From what I hear, the last set went badly... A lot of people had been there since the morning out in the sun and drinking.... They were just some miserable people ready to take it out on the world!!!

Anwya, I am no longer with the band due to relocation courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue!! I am teaching lessons, and in the process of building a band, but it doesnt have the talent we had in NC!

Re: Curious - how many folks have paying gigs?

I play between 2-6 times a month. Some of the gigs pay very little, others reasonably well. Of course, being in a ten piece band, it's not path to riches. purely for the love.
