When it gets right down to it, even if you own guitars with both types of bridges, if for the rest of your life all your guitars had to have hardtails or any type of vibrato unit, which would it be?

(the term tremolo bothers me because you do that with your volume knob, vibrato is what you do with a floyd rose, wilkinson, etc.)

Hardtails for me

but if you had to have for the rest of your life all your guitars had to have hardtails or any type of vibrato unit

i would probably have to take one with a vibrato unit but ill block it though

Re: Generic poll, are you a trem (vibrato) person or a hardtail person?

Hardtail, vibrato sucks the tone to much

Re: Generic poll, are you a trem (vibrato) person or a hardtail person?

I used to love trems, but now I'm more of a hard tail guy.

Does tuno-matic count as a hardtail?

Re: Generic poll, are you a trem (vibrato) person or a hardtail person?

Vincent tune-o-matic is definitive hard tail

What most people don't understand is that the word 'tremolo' applies to both. In the dictionary you will find tremolo defined as a "tremulous effect produced by rapid repetition of a single tone or rapid alternation of two tones."

PS: Hardtail.

No , it doesn´t, at least not universally....

Tremolo is a volume variance (Said tremulous effect/ "shakiness" of a note that the dictionary fails to properly describe for laymen :D:D)

Vibrato on the other hand, even by mirriam webster, is characterized as a pitch variance:
a slightly tremulous effect imparted to vocal or instrumental tone for added warmth and expressiveness by slight and rapid variations in pitch

In other words, according to Mirriam -Webster (who´s def. of tremolo I don´t fully support), all vibrato is tremolo, but not all tremolo is vibrato..... by this reasoning, the bridge can be called either ;)

*Edit* Now that I think about it, we´re kind of saying the same thing :smack: :laugh2:

I'm new to the boards and it seems most here lean towards the modern gear, hardware, etc. So I may be outnumbered when I say that Leo Fender's vintage strat trem is a work of genius and would be my choice hands down.
