Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

I was gonna back this guy up and say taking a loan out for a guitar may not be sooo bad, but then I saw how much it cost.

that is all.

On the bright side, here in Boston I see 17 year olds with new BMW M3 convertibles for ten times as much :)

How much is taxes on cars in Denmark these days?

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Look man I was 17 eleven years ago, Everyone here is telling you to reconsider this cause we've all either have thought of something like this when we were your age or did do something like this when we were your age. Bottom line is I really don't think you're going to take our advise, 'cause again I remember when I was 17, I didn't listen to anyone 'cause I was always right, so......the advise I give to you is, before you get the guitar make sure that's the one you really want, there are some really great guitars out there for that price range or less.

Then once you've decided on your guitar of choice, take your loan out, pay it back as fast as yu can, and *here's the big part* don't get bogged down with other debt, really focus on paying that guitar off, and please don't make the mistake of falling for some chick, cause I tell you, you will blow all your money on her and there goes your guitar.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR MONEY AND YOUR CREDIT!!!!!!!!

If you want it that bad and you can take the financial hit, go for it - cos if you've made up your mind that it has to be THAT guitar then whatever else you pick up (irrespective of whether it's a beeter axe) isn't going to scratch that itch.

Good or bad, ain't no teacher better trhan experience.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Utter Madness....

Not even an adult and 6 grands worth of debt for a luxury item? I can't get my head around that.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Sometimes you just have to make your own mistakes before you learn I suppose. I've been there, they just weren't $6500 mistakes.

Besides we're all missing a big factor here. Will the bank give him the loan for a guitar?

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Good Lord... I don't think i have that much money invested in my entire RIG, much less one guitar.

Now I do have something to say before giving out my opinion... I myself am in the process of THINKING about getting a loan in the area of $4-5000 to pay for an overhaul on my entire rig, save for my guitars. Do I want all that gear? Sure! But that’s not enough… the decision involves a careful consideration of what I’m doing with my music right now and I’m looking at the gear as tools that I will most likely need in the very near future that will facilitate what I’m doing. I’ve taken all the costs of the actual gear into consideration and I’m approaching/researching the idea of financing gear with that total price tag with extreme caution.

I’m not gonna tell you not to do it. I AM going to tell you to really ask yourself if you’ve thought about this and all the ramifications of having that much money into a guitar. What happens when you need more money for school? Or what happens if you need to buy a car or motorcycle for transportation (and all the maintenance/legal/insurance costs that come with that)? What if you want to move you and start life on your own?

Besides that, I just flat wouldn’t feel secure taking a $6000 guitar out of the house or gigging with it, so it really wouldn’t be of a whole lot of use to me anyways! At my age and in my situation I can’t afford to have a white elephant like that sitting around. I’d play it in my bedroom and that’s about it.

Bottom line… make sure you really have thought about this FAR beyond “I want it” or you could be making a very expensive mistake.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Wait, $4,750 and $6,500 is pretty close why not take a loan for $10,000 and by yourself a crazy high gain amp?

Wait, why not just taking a loan for $500 and sending it to me so I could come to Denmark and beat some sense into you. Then I'll fulfill my childhood dream and go to Lego-Land. I'll take Rid with me and we would all have so much fun. :kabong:

Dude I'd LOVE to beat sense into that ki... I mean go to Legoland! Count me in!!

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

I have the Edwards Sykes.

Very nice quality built guitar.
Only thing I changed were the toggle ring(original was a little thin) and the truss cover.

About $720 shipped from Japan.

If I need Gibson on the headstock I brake out my EXP PRo.

Bought new locally for $899.

I'm 42 and still can't comprehend taking a bank loan out for a guitar.
Cars and houses? Yes.
Guitars? No.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

There were so many big moments in rock guitar history that happened using lower priced guitars. Van Halen's Frankenstrat is a $300 guitar that sells replicas that cost 100 times more... it's the same with your guitar - would you be shocked to find out that Sykes bought the original for $600 from a friend? I won't.

What I'm saying is:

DON'T PAY $6500 FOR A GUITAR!

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

:kabong: thats for thinking $6500 on a "fanboys" guitar or any guitar is justified!

Maybe as a collectors piece, as an investment but not as a "player" when you are 17.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

That's nuts, man. I can't understand financing a guitar unless it's a "12 months same as cash" deal, and you can actually pay it in the 12 months :)

It's your money, so do as you please, but $6500 for a guitar is just silly.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

6+ big ones for a guitar is retarded! Any more than $1500-$1800 you are just paying for a name and hype usually.

Get an Edwards and get a better quality guitar for a whole lot less money!

Is there anyone in Denmark or in that area that can stop by and biatch slap some sense into him?

Rid, can you please help?

Yeah, no doubt. That Edwards is a hell of a guitar for the price. It comes with Duncans, 500K pots and such too.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Maybe PM(or search) Tattooed Carrot,he recently posted some pics of a new Black LPC w/Chrome hardware(not rings or p/g,tho,but still) at one of the stores he frequents...

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

i'm not sure what it is like over there but here in the U.S. I don't think a bank would lend a 17 year old $6K for a guitar
