Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

i'm so excited to try one of these. I was playing the Les Paul Jr at my shop a while yesterday thinking about how nice a carved top, tune-o-matic, and neck pickup would be :smokin:

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

So this "50's Style" - it's short and skinny frets, right? Not jumbos? Fretless wonder type setups?

No, they're 6105 Dunlop frets, no Jumbo but considered "Medium" frets, and by no means "Fretless Wonder" either, they're .0047" tall, so the actual height will be close to the .0045" after being Plek'ed.

As I've said before, I'd grab one in a heartbeat; it's the perfect workhorse for the working musician.

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

ive been hearing the same, which really blows cause i cant afford it at the moment. but in about 6 months i'd snatch one up in a heartbeat

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

What were you expecting the SG Studio to be? A somehow-cheaper SG Special? Cuz you can get an SG Special for like $700.

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

^^ That's how i understand the situation. Everybody knows that if Gibson were doing a special limited run of about 100 guitars they would all cost $25,000.

nah, just different features, though the LP special isnt the same thing as the standard, it does kind of look like it, and the sg special looks like an epiphone compared to the standard.

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

Dayum ...i could really got for a white finish, goldtop, and a honeyburst, those would be some sexy triplets.

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

what few studios I've played I hated. But what few goldtops I've played I've loved. I dunno, I don't trust gibson's cheap models. Some of them are so bad you may as well get an epiphone. Hell, that slash epiphone goldtop is only a couple hundred more and it kicks ass!

Hate to break it to you, but .0047" is about half a high E string, which would be fretless wonder territory.

I'm sure you mean .047"

YOU look like an Epiphone!

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

Is it solid mahogany? Or does it have a maple cap? It looks like the lack of maple might account for the price difference, but I didn't go to gibson.com to check.

I think studios are generally all mahogany, but I don't know about these, if they do it's probably just laminate

IMO all mahogany big guitars like these sound better with p90's than humbuckers anyways

Nah, The studio's have full carved Maple caps on em'. Look at the Honeyburst and you can see it. That Honeyburst looks strikingly similar to the Finish I did on the LP studio I just parted ways with.Hmmm :1:
