Just get an amp that sounds good and enjoy it.

Yeah you won't need to do any mods to it. I can suggest investing in some effects. Mainly a noise gate, EQ pedal and a OD if you want to really thicken your tone up. That will get you started for sure. Down then line, when needed put some good tubes in it but that's about it. you're golden with the head a noise gate and a tube screamer clone.

Be careful with the bright switch on the Windsor, and get a Rat. You'll love it.

Some people might flame me for this.... but here goes.

Some of the best punk tones I got came through coupling a Peavey Windsor with a EHX Metal Muff. You get the Windsor to push just a little breakup, and then you tip it over the edge with the MM, giving it a lot lower gain compared to a clean channel. It just gets so dirty, so cutting, and retains a TON of definition for fast chord passages. I plugged a Les Paul into that set up, and it totally moved some air.

Yep, the Windsor is a solid amp for the price, nothing to be ashamed of. Don't know anything about the cab, but if it's like the MS12 cabs it's just as good as anything else for way less money.

Please tell me your kidding... Sure gear makes a difference. But ham fist butt nugget playing still sounds like ham fist butt nugget playing even through the best gear. Better gear tends to be even less tolerant of sloppy playing.

This is true. Took me a few weeks of adjusting after getting into Mesa amps. At the same time, the tone I can get from it is.....well.... yeah.... :)

hey guys I just saw a marshall 2x12 cab that is 4 ohms will this cab work with the peavey windsor head??

if it's one of the ones with 1275s, it'll work, but you won't be able to hook up two cabinets if you decide to add another cabinet. the windsor has a 4/8/16 ohm switch on the back. i admit, i used to have one too. definitely a cool amp, but way too much amp for me and pretty much anybody not doing festival-sized gigs. got some good sounds out of mine, too. it's one of the few amps that actually sounds really nice with a stock ds-1.
