Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Definitely A5... Frank called me and we discussed the best overall magnet and concluded on A5.
I personally use A2 most of the time, but with .012-.052 gauge string set... the A5 will give more bottom for the typical lighter string set.
It is easy to swap magnets if you wish to tune it to personal preferences...

it would have been nice if SD wrote the fact this pickup born by a SD forum member, BachToRock (btw, thank you), and it was tested by a lot of other people orbiting here, including myself.
I don't see any reference about that, I hope it will be written in the more descriptive official page.

This. Credit where credit is due!

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

It is not the job of a marketing department to point blame for the mass adoption of a word. It is the marketing department that is being lazy by calling it what we call it and not doing their jobs. It is marketing's job to make their product appealing to their potential buyers, not to give hommage to the grass roots guys who already know everything about it

I mean, really who *here* is going to buy a new Hybrid (capital "H") for $90 when they can make 2 hybrids (lower case "h") for the same price? This needs to appeal to the people who are not here

Evan, SD marketing ... naming contest?

2 for the same price? Need to check your math. Where are you buying new SD's for $45? It takes 2 to make 2 hybrids. It will cost you $180 to make 2.

I'm talking about used pickups. You can buy used 59s and customs for $40 - $50 each any day of the week. I would need a good reason, like scarcity on the used market to buy a new SD pickup.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Maybe if they had called it the "BachToRock Bucker" or "BTR Bucker"! :)

Hopefully some swag is involved... I have a few Strats & Teles in need of some special pickups...

I am all for duncan throwin some swag like pu's your way! you deserve it:cool2:

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Yeah SD mentioned the forum in the Custom 5 ads didnt they? I expected the same here.
But I dont want to be negative.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Wow. Way to kill a thread about a new product, guys, by *****ing about the naming, the marketing and the intellect of the general guitar playing public. Rather than discussing the pickup itself, you go in to negative mode. Real nice.

What he said.

I've gotta say, I haven't been interested in getting new pickups at all for the last two or so years, but this might just make me break my abstinence. I've never bothered with finding both a '59 and a Custom to make a hybrid, but if SD starts selling them premade my PGn might just have a new play buddy.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

The BTR Hybrid line... Every Hybrid he schooled us to is great.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

I just saw the pic on FB earlier.

I'm intrigued! A lot of you guys seem to really dig it. Maybe I'll try one out when they drop.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Cmon, this pickup was named before it was built!
I hope they vary the magnet with the models. And really, BachtoRock deserves some mention... He shd autograph the first 100.

Apples to oranges friend. You can't have it both ways.

Why not? Are you implying that, if no one ever bought a new SD pickup, it would hurt the availability of used ones? That's crazy talk.
