signature guitars = poser or no??

Re: signature guitars = poser or no??

The first "Jeff Beck" strat has the HUGEST neck they ever made for Strats, so I want one because of that. Unfortunately they cost 6X what a generic Strat neck does, because of the name on it...

Re: signature guitars = poser or no??

I bought my John 5 Tele, and didn't even know who he was before hand. The reason being, the guitar "spoke" to me. It doesn't matter who or what it's designed for... if it speaks to you, and what you want in a guitar, you would be doing an injustice to the art of playing, and yourself, by not...

Posers collect... we play, therefore we rock...

Re: signature guitars = poser or no??

i've owned signature guitars by artists i don't care for just because i like the features

my favorite guitars are Les Pauls and I don't play music anything like what he does

if you're worried about what other people think you really shouldn't be making art in the first place

Im really not that concerned. I used to have an EPi ace frehley . cuz I liked the feature set. I just hoped I wouldnt look like a total poser.. I know LOTS of guys that use Randy R guitars too..

Re: signature guitars = poser or no??

I never listened to Static X, nor did I know or care who Wayne Static is/was, but I remember liking his signature Epiphone V enough that I nearly bought one.

I remember thinking it was a little goofy that his face was screened on the back of the headstock. If I'd bought one, I imagine even years later I'd look at it occasionally while I played, and I'd think, "Dude, I still don't know who you are, but your guitar is sweet!"

"What's yer name, mister?"

"It's on your guitar, son!"

I've owned a JEM and a Wolfgang. They were both great guitars -- pretty specialized superstrats that could nonetheless cover a lot of musical territory. In fact, one of my friends -- who'd owned maybe a dozen different guitars over the years -- eventually ended up doing nearly all his playing on an Ernie Ball Eddie Van Halen guitar. He could crank out the VH tunes, sure, but he could also crank out everything else on it, too.

At the end of the day, it's "just" another guitar.

no way would i ever own anything remotely related to blink 182. :18:

Single humbucker Strat with a hardtail bridge? Just about impossible to find anywhere unless you go custom. The Robert Cray Strat is routed S/S/S.

Anything sigged for someone on Avenged Sevenfold is the worst tho. Don't own one.

The Avenger is an awesome shape, thankfully it's available without a signature model. :D

Wish I could find one with a Strat-style hardtail. I picked up a mahogany bodied 006 recently and replaced the stock neck with a maple Strat neck. (The 006 is 22 fret 25.5" scale.) With a D-Activator neck in the bridge it's just about perfect.

Re: signature guitars = poser or no??

Getcha Pull!!! Talk about some signature models. :D

Folks buy them, Love them, and loathe them too. They are just guitars play them. Double D would've! :headbang:

Re: signature guitars = poser or no??

I think the 006 would be a gorgeous guitar if not for the graphics package. Theres a part of me that wants a syn gates in purple but...that part of me is problematic.
The Robert Smith, Dan Donegan Ultras are hot stuff. A comedian named Greg Behrendt got a neat machine from Schecter too. I wonder if they started mass producing it? They could call it the sweater special or something.

Re: signature guitars = poser or no??

LOL!! yeah, when I played my Ace frehley at church, I had to cover the face on the headstock. I loved that axe tho. I had one of the rare black ones. Flame maple top, 3 super distortions. I swapped the neck one out for a paf pro

Re: signature guitars = poser or no??

you know, A7x gets alot of smack talk, but Gates can play better than most/many in the Genre.. I still wouldnt want the guitar with the A7x inlays or anything tho.

Re: signature guitars = poser or no??

I actually own three sig models, a first run Sambora Strat, a '97 Ace Frehley LP and a Aria Pro II Neal Schon model from the late '80's. I only bought one of them because it was a sig model. The other I bought based on specs, even though in the end I'm a fan of all three players.

The NS is a cool LP style guitar with a few extra features like an early Roland midi pickup system (that's pretty well obsolete, now) and a couple of switches that activate an adjustable tone circuit that can take the tone from LP to pretty convincing Strat with the way I have them set. Plus, the guy I bought it from bought directly from Neal, which is the reason I bought it.

Re: signature guitars = poser or no??

Technically, everyone who owns an LP has a signature guitar

What a bunch of posers trying to mimic Les Paul!

Re: signature guitars = poser or no??

I'd like a G&L rampage a la jerry but I don't really dig AIC (I don't not like them, but he's not one of my heroes so to speak)

The only poser are the ones with fake relics.

If you can level Warren's playing, you are a god!

You might be thinking of something else. 006 is a shape, and I don't think there's any artist models.

Mine is satin black, has a Fender-style hardtail, and now has a Squier 22 Fret neck with a CBS headstock. :D

Heh yeaaaaa oops. I meant the 666 guitar that the other guy plays. Sorry for the mixup.
the Ultra, Solo and pne of their superstrat shaped are really nice looking. Not sure what...Zacky Vengeance? What his guitar is based on...

Re: signature guitars = poser or no??

I need sl00sh toanz, dammit.

(20 years later, wonder why he never made it big. And no, sl00sh has nothing to do with it. Might as well be another BIG artist)

Why wanna sound like <insertHEROhere>???
Unless you are Tommy Thayer, and you wished to play in KISS all your life (again, as an example. Tommy personally has nothing to do with it).

Create your own sound, with gear that NO ONE has.
Don't give a f**k about what others think of your gear etc. (which also includes using signature gear)
But don't try to sound like "him/her".... Tha's jus' lame
