I'm in.

10k hot 59
Nickel cover on whatever coil colors.
I'll let experts decide what wire, balance, and magnets are needed to get a good PUP at 10K.

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

I think if we want something that will appeal to as many people as possible, it has to be standard spaced. I don't think a nickel cover will fit a trem-spaced pickup, will it? Besides, the consensus on this forum seems to be that standard spaced humbuckers work fine on the vast majority of Fender-ish guitars (mine included).

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

I need to be out if it goes trembucker. My PRSi, LP and Epiphone are using standard spaced Duncans and line up properly in spite of whatever a spec sheet says. I want to get in on this but obviously not if the final product is of no use to me.

votes will win out every time. i can see the votes. trem does me no good either, but i only have one vote as well. also, i have no emotional ties to this pup. let the peeps rule the day!

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

Votes aside, it looks pretty clear so far that those who want trem spacing can live without it, and those who don't want it consider it a deal breaker. Am I right?

I'm not pissed about anything Scott. If it doesn't fall in my favor its of no consequence. I already have an S-Deco and other pickups of that design. Just stating the obvious that the go / no go decision will depend on the final specs.

Payments could be mailed to me if we decide to do yhis. Maybe set a target date in January for getting money in. (assuming it comes together)

Scott,

Hey bro. I'll chime in as I'd like to have one. I recommend using all the parts of an Antiquity except for the cover. It can be shiny nickel.

So:
-approx. 10K
-A5 Mag De-Gaussed
-Bridge Pickup
-Double Cream Bobbins
-Nickel Cover
-Any conductor combo is fine (doesn't matter to me if it is 4 conduc. or braided, shielded pigtail).

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

How about this, we talk to MJ to see if doing all of them in one spacing vs. making some standard and some trem-spaced will make a difference in price. It sounds like some of us want trem-spaced and some of us want standard spaced to meet our needs. When one of us talks to MJ we should maybe let her now that if both are available there will be a larger number of total units sold so there for I am not sure if it will have a price difference or not. ya dig?

BTW, instead of us all pissing in the wind and throwing out this spec and that spec, shouldnt we possibly ask the "pickup winding master" (MJ) what to do to achive our overwound PAF sound??

Has someone stepped up yet to be our person to talk to MJ? Scott, did you volunteer for this???

I totally agree with both points. Let's just stick to defining cosmetics + hardware needs (spacing, leads, etc) and leave the intricacies (magnet, wire gauge, etc) to the pros. We're lucky enough that they're even considering this idea ... I don't want us to seem too picky. Beggars can't be choosers after all.

I'm just looking forward to the opportunity to put a very unique and very special SD pickup in my guitar.

Yep, I too have full confidence in MJ or whoever pro actually winds it.

About the poll; I've been thinking that maybe it should be on only when the actual people who'll buy will vote? There's some people who aren't 100% sure, as myself, shouldn't the poll be only for they who are actually influenced by the outcome?

Good P.O.V. I think its a good time to take this to MJ to figure out specs and the business end of this thang! It may turn out standard vs. trem or other ideas may not even be an issue???? We will not know specifics until we talk to her though.

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

Good point Theodie. If there is no preference of Trem spaced or standard I may even go for 1 of each.

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

Well, looking at the poll we may even have enough on board for both runs.... a black or zebra TB might be cool too, for less aggressive work.... I may also go for 2 just for the heck of it, spec dependent... finances are slooooooowly clearing up....

As far as "aimed for tone", I´m very flexible but am thinking kind of "slightly pissed off Antiquity that lifts a bit of weights and Jogs regularly" :laugh2:

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

I'm a little confused about the four conductor wiring as I've never used that. If it's four conductor, I can still use it with a Les Paul, right? What is there one wire that's normally the braid, one that's normally the wire and you can just cap off the other two?

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

You solder white + red together and tape them away, then you use green + the shield to ground, black is hot ;)

I think we're aiming for a hot PAF ('59/EVH/Antiquity). Let's not make a variant of a variant (PG is already a variation of the PAF)...then we're getting too far from the real thing.

Funny thing is,the EVH is not a PAF in the strictest sense, and the 59 is actually closer to a post-1960 Pat # pickup. The closest thing to a 57-59 PAF from Duncan is the Antiquity, Seth, and PG.

So, if you wanted a Hot PAF, overwind a Seth, Antiquity, or PG.

Like I said before, I personally would love a 10K Antiquity with either a Dun Aged alnico V or full strength alnico II.
