Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

I have been thinking, everyone wanted something that Duncan dosent have, something to fill a gap between the 8K-14K range. The 59 is something like 8.5 isnt it? Should we maybe opt for the 11-12K mark to make it fall right in between the gap? Something like the S-Deco bridge?

BTW, I may go for one in standard and also trem-spaced if available.

the 59 is actually closer to a post-1960 Pat # pickup. The closest thing to a 57-59 PAF from Duncan is the Antiquity, Seth, and PG.
I don't want to misquote Evan, but they had Seth Lover's original humbucker at NAMM last year, and IIRC, Evan said the current pickup that sounded the closest was a '59

that will probably surprise some - I know it did me, since I guessed the Seth would've been closest

the point being that the '59 is very much a PAF type, and very much a valid benchmark

I'm not surprised, they wind the 59 on that old Gibson machine, and use the maple spacers. The 59 is probably the best bang for buck pickup out there thats mass produced.

ah yes, the ole Leesona:

This machine is used for "P.A.F." style humbuckers, just like the old days!

OK, sorry ... back to our regular program :)

You solder white + red together and tape them away, then you use green + the shield to ground, black is hot ;)

Thank you Zerberus. Appreciated.

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

FWIW...I know of a dead stock (real...not reissue) 1957 Gold Top Les Paul and the bridge pickups (again, dead stock PAF) measures slightly over 10k. I have a feeling thats about as far as you can go with 42 guage wire...if the "peacemaker" stays with 42 guage wire I'll be getting one...just for the record I would also like to keep it NON potted as well!

I'm not pissed about anything Scott. If it doesn't fall in my favor its of no consequence. I already have an S-Deco and other pickups of that design. Just stating the obvious that the go / no go decision will depend on the final specs.

same here, i wasnt referring to you at all

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

10k
dunaged alnico V
short legs
zebra under nickel
42 gauge plain enamel wire

?????

id prefer alnico II but majority rules.

2 wire or four wire, is that decided?

Granted, the 59 is the closest thing to the prototype, but most of the old recordings done with production PAF's way back sound closer to my PG's, Seths, and the later recordings using PAF loaded 57-59 LP's sound like the Antiquities, at least to my ears.

I'm not saying the 59 is a bad pickup, but to me at least, it isn't the be all PAF.

The Ant, Seth, and Pearly are great PAF clones in their own right as well.

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

Also keep in mind that the Seth, PG, and Ant. are also wound on the Leesona.

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

This couldn't have come at a better time. I was just about to buy a Seth Lover for my Les Paul but I'm going to wait for this pickup now. I already have a Seth in my doubleneck and Ants in my 75 LP custom, which I believe these are both alnico II pickups. Gonna be nice to have a bit of a difference, and hotter in the other LP.

I'm all jazzed up about this pickup--Let's Rock! :firing:

All points cool with me!

The only thing is that I think mismatched coils would be improving the clarity of the sucker. But would go with the majority on this one.

I think 4c wires would be cool for super strats (without a floyd - the poll is indicating a HB with Gibson spacing ;).

Best,

B

PS. Scott_F, would we be able to do paypal? If so great, otherwise could do a USPS MO, but would prefer the paypal thingy.

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

BTW a 10K antiquity, 59, seth, PG, EVH whatever are all cool with me. Personally, I'd vote for a 10K PG or EVH, with any grade of alnico magnet 2-6!

Is that what it's looking like so far?

I would prefer 2 wire but 4 works just fine. I woudl alsao prefer slightly mismatched coils as well as not potted.

As for things like the magnet, the cover, logo, etc...these things can be changed (if you want it non logo'd, take it off, if youi want no cover, take it off, if you want it gold, swap the cover, if you want it potted, pot it).

Just my thoughts

I could live with those specs.

I don't know if 4con is decided but it would be the most flexible for everyone.

+1 on all points

As far as the Poll goes, MJs original offer was for 10 or more.... the poll shows 30 for a Standard and 15 for a TB, and some would even want both as it seems....

Scott, can you perhaos ask MJ if we can do 2 "semi-separate" runs of 10 or more? It would seem the interest is there ;)

Zerb,

Who says everybody voting will buy? ;) See?

That is actually why I am sort of against the polls in this matter. But anyway we gotta do something.

Peace.

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer POLL OPEN!

I'll check into it, but my gut feeling is we need to decide on one spec first. Getting 10 to follow through with this will be difficult enough. Once we decide on a spec and have 10 orders, then if 10 more guys want tremspacing we can aspproach thatat that time.

We've got 45 votss and I still think we'll have issues just getting 10 to step up. Lets stick with what we are doing.

Scott a maybe its time to throw up a proposed spec and see how many are in and see if there is a common point of objection? Right now I have now idea what spec we are even talking about?
