Things you could'nt care less about that the vast majority of guitar players luv...

haha...nah you were pretty much an "insults only" kind of guy :lmao: . I don't even remember who it was that posted the retarded meme's tbh... and all those fun threads kept being deleted so fast it was hard to keep track of everyone's pearl's of wisdom anyway...

As for subject matter, there's noting more that you or me (or anyone ) could say on the matter that was'nt said before..So that's going nowhere.......

I’ll just say you do use theory whether you know it ir not. Plenty of musicians have pretty hip sounding parts from a theory standpoint even if they have no idea, they just know it sounds cool/right for the song.

Sure, no argument there. But I come by it by using my ear and playing what I think fits & sounds right...not from a book. ..also because I'm not confined to what is theoretically "correct" .but go by what my ear tells me sounds cool ,.that opens up even more options for me as a player.. Finally not having to think about what needs to come next makes everything flow quicker & my playing a lot nippier.

In other words I'm more than happy with how I go about doing things :D

I always thought the good thing about the guitar was that they didn't teach it in school.
~ Jimmy Page

You can't overthink the music. Mood and intensity can't be manufactured. The blues isn't about structure; it's what you bring to it. The spontaneity of capturing a specific moment is what drives it.
~ Jimmy Page

Let me explain something about guitar playing. Everyone's got their own character, and that's the thing that's amazed me about guitar playing since the day I first picked it up. Everyone's approach to what can come out of six strings is different from another person, but it's all valid.
~ Jimmy Page

So many people are frightened to take a chance in life and there's so many chances you have to take.
~ Jimmy Page

^ I think he says it all....it's essentially what Mancuso's saying & what I'm saying. I mean I've said all I have to say on the subject, but that ^^ probably covers everything in a nutshell.

I think you're overlooking the fact that Jimmy Page was a session musician, having to read charts to perform tracks for other people's music, for as long as he was in Led Zeppelin.

Page and Jones also wrote charts and string arrangments while in Led Zeppelin. I do not see anything in any of those Page quotes that reference theory or suggest a guitarist is better without it.

I don't like Floyds either as I never use them, and they're higher-maintenance than it's worth it for me who doesn't use them, but I gotta say, the most stable guitars I've ever owned have all had Floyds. Those things are a bitch to throw out of tune, IME.

I'm overlooking nothing. those are his words/his quotes. Damn. EVH was a maestro of theory despite saying he did'nt know any, & now Page is full of shit too.

lol, listening to you one would think every legendary guitar player out there was also a pathological liar :lmao:

Yeah, time to stop w/ the bragging & get back to the guitar :bigthumb:

Though I will add 300 finger push-ups a day really does help strengthen those digits when I play my guitar :lmao:

How many times do you have to lie that EVH didn't know any theory? He's a distinguished alumnus of the Pasadena City College music department.

https://pasadena.edu/news-and-events/eddie-van-halen.php

Says he "attended 3 semesters" ("with his band" ?? who were "playing clubs at the time" and "stumbled in too tired" to do anything) .....umm, not too promising :lmao:

In any case his words not mine.. I just choose to believe him. You're the one calling him a liar...

That's a year and a half. A pretty long time. You can learn a lot in a year and a half, especially if you're already talented. Why would he not have learned any theory during that time? I studied for a little over a year and a half with my teacher and learned a crap load. The majority of the advanced concepts he uses. And that was only going once every 2 weeks.

Btw I took classical violin lessons when I was 11 for almost a year & guess what? I don't know shit about theory :bigthumb:

Eh, I was a maestro in the making, who threw it all away (the fat theory books) to go shred my guitar. That's probably exactly what Eddie did too ..if you believe HIS words like I do :bigthumb:

Not if he was asleep/drunk the whole time...

At the very least it shows you how captivating he found it to be :laugh2:

^ It's community college, you sign up. But that's ridiculous to posit that he went there for a year and a half and learned zero theory. He was such a gifted musician but was too much of a moron to pick up any knowledge in school. Yeah sure. That makes sense.

Or maybe he just preferred to PLAY HIS GUITAR...some of us do, you know ;)

And some people like to play their instrument and actually know how. You can lie all you want, he knew theory. He went to music school. All the greats know theory.
