Re: User Group Pickup Specs Poll #1

Disappointed to see that humbucker is winning. How many frakkin' humbuckers do you people need?!?

I think it's the Tele's turn for a forum pickup! P90 in a Tele bridge format would rule the school!

Re: User Group Pickup Specs Poll #1

I'm just going to put this out there- if it is going to be a bridge pickup, I vote that has an A8 magnet.

Re: User Group Pickup Specs Poll #1

Not sure about others, but I voted Humbucker only as the starting platform, and then it could be taken to almost any direction. Personally I'm rooting for a pickup that hasn't been made, not just a regular vintage or middle wind pickup. But something interesting as it's already been proposed by others and myself, blades or magnets being the blades, coil mismatch, different kind of p90, filtertron, toaster, etc.

I can't exactly put a tele or strat pickup in my LP without it looking out of place. I think many people would benefit from this since many do own humbucker guitars here. Last runs were strat bro 90 and phat staple.

Fair point. I'm not really interested in a humbucker, but something else interesting in a humbucker-sized package would possibly get me excited.

I'm still rooting for Tele, though. :fingersx:

Re: User Group Pickup Specs Poll #1

This just my .02, and that's exactly what my opinion is worth, but humbuckers usually win out because that's what most of us use. Even those of that do have single coil equipped guitars are already covered by what's out there already. There's only so many ways you can wrap a single bobbin. In that same thought, same goes for "traditional" buckers, even though there's much more you can do with them.

Lt. Kojak has some good ideas, but again, most of them are things you can do by making hybrids. If you want unpotted, you can order any of the pickups unpotted as a floor custom through any dealer.

I feel sorry for the Tele guys, but I don't honestly think a Tele pickup would drum up enough interest to make it worth while for the custom shop to do it. If it were to be a Tele pickup, I'm out for 2 reasons. I don't have a Tele and I'm not going to build or buy a guitar for a pickup and being left handed, it would have to be a blade style or non staggered for it to be usable for me.

P90's kind of fall into the Tele category and are even more of a niche. Lots of users, not a lot of options for them, but I don't think enough users to make it worth while for the Custom Shop to do it.

I don't really remember, but wasn't there a set minimum of pickups before the CS would even do it on previous runs?

Anywho, the main purpose of my post is for people wanting to participate in this run to keep an open mind. Everyone here has a specific idea for a custom shop pickup. Myself included. Don't get mad because every specific part of this pickup isn't to your exact liking. This isn't your chance to get your brilliant idea of a pickup for a good deal. If it works out that way for someone. Awesome. If not, then spend the extra bit of cash and get exactly what you want.

This is a forum designed pickup that's not readily available to public and produced by the MJ and Seymour. The important things are be happy you're part of a community that will most definitely put together a killer pickup no matter the style and thankful that the Seymour Duncan company loves their forum users enough to do this for us.

I meant "Alnico" not as in the alloy (which is not capitalized), but as in the name of the Gibson pickup used in the neck slot of the first few years of LP Customs (and some other Gibsons too).

This baby right here (the soapbar variety):

Unfortunately, it is Custom Shop, and costs $225.

you do know why they are so expensive right? those things are a nightmare to make. take a look at one up close and you see how much work goes into each one

Re: User Group Pickup Specs Poll #1

They are complicated compared to most pickups, with their Gretch-like polepiece adjustments, but I think the price has more to do with the low demand for such a thing. The '54 to '56 LP Custom is my personal favorite LPC, but I think most prefer the '57 style.

P.S. Didn't they used to be $320?

You know, when I said it would be cool to have a blade-style moderate output humbucker, I hadn't really thought it through. What does the blade actually do to the tone of the pickup? I tend to associate that style with a razor-sharp high end, and I'm not sure that's ideal for this application. Do you get any benefit from the blade rather than individual pole pieces?

I could be wrong, but I always kind of assumed that blades were designed to eliminate any kind of drop off when bending strings, which is something I've never even noticed with regular humbuckers.

I like some bladed pickups, but I dislike the idea of not being able to adjust the polepiece height.

Re: User Group Pickup Specs Poll #1

I would like any of the following new products:
SSL-5 for Tele bridge
Teleblaster - a hot Tele bridge pickup, built like a P90 with Invader style poles.
Cool rails for Tele bridge
Lil Screamin Demon for Tele bridge
JB Jr. for Tele bridge

A variant of the StraBro90 for Tele bridge would be something I would buy.

I agree. Come On Guys I really think a Single coil will be nice this time maybe Tele bridge or Strat.

Re: User Group Pickup Specs Poll #1

I love humbuckers... But my vote is for tele. Regardless of what wins I just hope that we can get creative. I'd really like to see something new and exciting.

Either way I'm very happy to be a part of this for the first time.

Re: User Group Pickup Specs Poll #1

I like humbuckers. But I would definitively want a nice tele bridge pup this time.

Re: User Group Pickup Specs Poll #1

Well, looks like it's gonna be a humbucker...

An UOA5 Firebird pickup would float my boat...

And it'd be that much cooler if it had a trim ring instead of a full cover.

Like a mini version of one of these (but without the logos):

And with covers like these:
