Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

I got two Gibson SG Juniors here man. I'm all about the P-90's in SG's. See the top row outer portion of my avatar.:)

Right on, J-man!

Here's my white SG standard on the left - all stock. Came right out of the box as a great sounding, great playing guitar. It just bleeds mojo...

A real old one. :) You can't see in that pic, but the edges are all worn down and there are dents worn into the top of it from the strings...

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

WOW - how many SG's have you had until now ? James

6 Epi SG Std's (G-400) & 1 white Epi Maestro Custom. Love them SG's!

On my Custom I did this:

Bridge: C5

Middle: Phat CatN

Neck: '59N

The bridge has its own 250K volume & tone pots, both are push-pulls, one for coil cut, the other for phase.

The neck & middle share their own 500K volume and tone pots. Their volume is a blend pot, so I can dial in neck, middle, or any amount of both. Their tone is a push-pull to coil cut the neck HB.

I get at least 30 PU combinations. Unlike the stock wiring, I can flip the toggle and instantly go from bridge to middle and back again.

I've tried a few different wirings for triple HB guitars, and this is the best I've come up with yet. I think a HB/Phat Cat/Phat Cat would be pretty interesting too.

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

Is that a stock bridge ?
I love P90 equiped SG's, ala SG Classic's but not in my budget !

James

No, the bridge is a Leo Quan Bad-Ass that I suspect was placed on the guitar around the same time as the Grover tuners... circa mid-70s I'm guessing. Luckily whoever owned the guitar at the time didn't put a brass nut on it!

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

i dig SGs...the neck contour is very comfortable in my hands!

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

Ss there a blade pu in the neck too now ?

Sorry the pic you posted only shows a blade unit in the bridge !

James

Well, com' on then - tell us more !

I know NOTHING about the brand - or that spesific model !

James

What do you want me to tell you? I have a Dimarzio PAF In the neck, and a late 70's-early 80's Bill Lawrence L500L pickup in the bridge, L:confused:L?

There's about a million threads on Bill Lawrence pickups in the pickup lounge. :sigh:

But I'll explain: :ok:

Bill Lawrence was a dude from Germany who made these rad pickups, and some other carnie dude tried to steal his name, and there was some legal trouble, and so now two dudes currently make a pickup called the L500, but whether one is better than the other is highly debated and moot. :ok::thanks:

Hola!

Here are mine. I think the Brobucker is the best bridge pickup for an Sg im still undecide on the best neck pickup. The black Sg has EMg 81/85, i'm going to drop some blackouts in it when i find some on the cheap.

Re: Where did all the SG owners go ?

This is my sort of an SG, Epi Iommi G-400. I moved the normal top jack, to the body's edge, and a wired a 4P3T toggle switch, mounted into the jack location, to allow standard/split/parallel switching.

I do all my own wiring, self taught, no background in electronics and no handyman skills. Two books helped a lot: Dan Erlewine's "How to make your guitar play & sound great", and Donald Brosnac's "Guitar electronics for musicians". Lots of info on electronics & set up (StewMac carries both books).

Plus this forum is fill of ideas & advice; a great resource. Wiring is easy once you get past your initial jitters. Just keep in mind that every electrical part has a hot and a ground wire. Use a good diagram, like the ones on this website, and the average 12 year-old kid can do all kinds of neat things.
