If they were such mediocre trash, they would have fallen by the wayside decades ago.
They literally went bankrupt...just saying :kabong:

and by the way the VW company was founded by the British Government.

Finally, rear engine/rear axle was around before the First World War. Karl Benz and Henry Ford designs leap to mind.
The Beetle marked a significant trend, led by Volkswagen, and then by Fiat and Renault, whereby the rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout increased from 2.6 percent of continental Western Europe's car production in 1946 to 26.6 percent in 1956.[21] In 1959 even General Motors launched an air-cooled, rear-engined car, the Chevrolet Corvair—which also shared the Beetle's flat engine and swing axle architecture.
Since Gibson made them first, it's super bull**** that Dimarzio was able to patent double cream humbuckers as though they came up with the idea. That's like if Gibson patented all black guitars - total bull****, and not something they invented.
in the case of a car -primarily the shape -as the color is selectable and motors and parts are shared with other models and even makes.
Woah woah woah.
Robot tuners are cool, the problem with them is they put a niche, yet expensive idea, on too many of their guitars thus driving the average Gibson price up.
It would be like if Fender randomly started putting Kahler's on all their guitars.
Name me one time in history when mediocre was desirable, legendary, and the standard of the world...
Here is the thing - I mistake a LOT of cars for the wrong make/model/style and color.
NEIN! Revisionist history.
The British Army organized and started the private company that you call Volkswagen today in 1946 and then turned it over into German hands half a decade later.

Can I see some pics? I've played some nice Gibsons, and 10x better in every respect would be cool to see.
desirable - Everyone wanted a bug or a bug wagon for decades
legendary - everyone recognizes the car, it is a huge piece of pop culture
standard of the world - It is one of the if not the first "affordable" cars to be followed by everything from the Yugo to the Civic. Volkswagen also made rear engine, rear axle design a new standard. It wasn't the first but made the design popular.
mediocre - it is bare bones no luxury, just a point a to point b vehicle.
You hit the first two points, but it is not (and never was) the standard of the world. It was however a known quantity - same as McDonalds.
BUT they still exist and are recognized as the standard. Business mistakes and marketing practices aren’t directly related to the quality of their product. That’s a logical fallacy and you know it.

Their "NAME" is recognized as the standard. That reputation was built over many years of producing great instruments at reasonable prices.
The business mistakes and marketing practices are not necessarily directly related to quality, but, yes, indeed, they are related. You all complain about eras when Gibson's quality was poor due to business/leadership/marketing practices. Not a fallacy!
You just proved my point. The world recognizes that VW was started by Nazis, for Nazis. They don't know and don't care what hand the Brits had in it.
