Re: Best Deal you've ever gotten-posted for bragging

My latest acquisition, my tech's handmade guitar (he calls them Marlin).
He'd built it for himself at Christmas but according to him it didn't got played much because he's an acoustic player so he passed it on to me for 500 euros.

How is that a score? Well, it's a custom made guitar and luckily enough for me, custom made almost to my exact specifications if I were the choose.
My ideal SuperStrat is HSS, 24 frets, has a Wilkinson tremolo, a fat sounding but smooth to the touch dark Rosewood fretboard, a comfortable, high access heel, master tone, master volume, a switch that coil splits the bridge and turns the neck on regardless of the 5-way, has the exact neck profile that I like (a middle of the road C (D?) shape between a Washburn NX3 and a Jackson Dinky, Hard Maple of course), looks great and sounds awesome.

Now, as (statistically impossible) luck would have it the guitar he made for him turned out to be my ideal guitar minus the 24 frets (it only has 22 :(), as for the profile, it appears that what was ideal for him when he was making it and testing it for feel was what was ideal for me.
He even filled the gaps for me. Bubinga body, abalone dot inlays and a kickass (for me) arrow shaped headstock!
And for 500 euros? (a Jackson Dinky DK2 typically goes for 600-700).

I think I'd call it a hell of a deal!

Probably my Aria AW-830T. List price of $850, I paid $525 IIRC. Based on how it plays and sounds, that's a steal.

I got an amp related one- my '94 Mesa Boogie Subway Rocket combo, for $400 CDN in good condition. I bought it a couple of years ago and while it may not be a crazy deal I've definitely gotten a lot of use out of it and it sounds great.

My wife found a 1956 Harmony H44 at a yard sale for 15$. The pickguard was broken, so I made a new one and had to do a bit of wiring. Its an awesome slide guitar and they go for about 1500$ and more now!

Re: Best Deal you've ever gotten-posted for bragging

could be either my usa hamer daytona for $280 or my custom shop washburn for $250. got my musicmaster bass amp for nothing, that was a great score.

Re: Best Deal you've ever gotten-posted for bragging

1985 Performance Cutsom from a pawn shop: $230 out the door. I talked to the factory when I was in L.A., the guy remembers building the guitar and said the same would cost me over $2000 today...

Bought a 1989 Charvel 750XL (MIJ) for about $600 including case and taxes... Swapped it with a friend for a 1985 Jackson Rhoads Custom (MIA). Sold the Rhoads on ebay for $1300US plus shipping to England.

Re: Best Deal you've ever gotten-posted for bragging

Mint Condition 1986 Kramer Focus 6000 with hard case for $260 shipped.

My New Epi LP Trans black was $375. They are selling for $499 most places. Not earth shattering compared to many of these deals, but its a heck of a guitar for a very good price.

Re: Best Deal you've ever gotten-posted for bragging

I got my giggin' bass on eBay for $180, with case. It's a "JBP" Musicman-style bass, but it plays pretty well, and sounds decent enough (I'm gonna drop in a Duncan Musicman pickup [alnico] one of these days though). It came with a navy blue Ipath sticker, but I took that off and now it has Robots Will Kill (graffiti website) and Skull Candy. I'll be puttin' Mr. Boh on it soon, but never a band sticker, because they make me feel like a tool.
I got it sophomore year of high school--I almost paid $400 for a new acoustic guitar! SUCH a good choice to get a 5-string Musicman copy instead, and at under half the price of the acoustic, with the case included... hell, I don't even dig the acoustic scene anymore!

I traded a standard Dunlop wah for a 1973 Princeton Reverb back in the mid 90s. I didn't know much other than it had tubes.

Thats great you could sell the body for that much. I just bought a highway 1 tele body on ebay for 150, they routinely go for that much.
