Best guitar solo ever is.....

B Bent

Vibroluxologist
Your favorite of course!!!!

For me it's a tie. I can't get over the solo that Brian Setzer pulls off on "Rock This Town" from his work with the BSO and it ties with Jimmy Page's solo on "Achille's Last Stand". Pagey is just so passoinate on that solo. Of course the Pagey solo has somewhat of a lead IMO. What's your favorite?

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

Gotta be a toss up between "Time" and "Comfortably Numb" by Dave Gilmour.

Gilmour is the master at phrasing. The only guitar player I know that can solo for 3+ minutes and really hold my attention.

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

Stevie Ray Vaughn "Voodoo Child" live at Carnegie Hall. The whole song...also Eric Clapton's version of "Hideaway". Also Stevie's "Pride and Joy". Those are my favs.

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

dimebag on "floods" is my #1. then its probably tipton & downing on "victim of your eyes"

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

Freeeeebiiiiiiird! In all seriousness, some of my favorites are Aces High, Sweet Child O' Mine, tons of Maiden solos, especially Dave's.

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

ah, ex-250 you picked one of my faves too, the Dime solo on Floods. Also I like the solo on I'm Broken..... and well a lot of Pantera stuff... but one of my absolute favourites as well is the solo in Ensiferum's version of Metallica's Battery!

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

I just played it 'live' in my room 10 minutes ago. Sorry u guys missed it.

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

Dream Theater's 'Scarred' sends chills and emotions and crap straight down my spine. I absolutely adore it. If it were a woman, I'd made sweet love to it every night until Zeus fell off. :bigok:

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

November Rain, Little Wing, or Since I've Been Loving You . . . although Comfortably Numb is pretty good too . . .

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

If I had to pick a single solo ... it would probably be the solo to Tonight by Randy Rhoads.

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

The intro to the KISS song, "No, No, No!"
Bruce Kulick all the way!!!!

:headbang:

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

My favorite solo is the first one I ever learned - Pearl Jam's "Glorified G". The solo at the end always got me and I was so proud the first day I could play it smoothly.

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

I can't pick just one, there are too many: (in no particular order)
1) Larry Carlton on "Kid Charlemagne" by Steely Dan
2) Michael Bruce on "Billion Dollar Babies" by Alice Cooper
3) Lindsey Buckingham on "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac
4) Tom Scholz on "Long Time" by Boston
5) James Young on "Queen of Spades" by Styx
6) Jimmy Bryant on "Stratosphere Boogie" with Speedy West
7) Jerry Reed on "The Claw"
8) Rik Emmet on "Tears in the Rain" by Triumph
9) Ronnie Montrose on "Free Ride" by the Edgar Winter Group
10) Brian May on "You're My Best Friend" by Queen

Hendrix : Little Wing, Castles Made of Sand, Zep : HeartBreaker

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

I've always LOVED the solo in Crazy Train.. it just feels so emotional to me.. same with Mr. Crowley. Randy Rhoads was truly a god..

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

In no paticular order

Mr. Crowley(both solos)
Cemetary Gates
The Sleep
Always with you, always with me
Flying in a blue Dream
Heaven Tonight
Riot in the Dungeons
Little Savage
In my Dreams
Push comes to shove
Still loving you.

Thats all I can think of for now.

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

I've never heard such a well thought of, well arranged and incredible harmony as the solo on "Hotel California'' by the Eagles ( Joe Walsh and Don Felder ). That solo just sings!

Re: Best guitar solo ever is.....

Mr. Crowley - Randy Rhoads
Lisa - Lita Ford
I have to agree with "Tonight" Thanks for mentioning it TwilightOdyssey. As soon as I read that I heard it in my head... the singing bends with wide vibrato near the end is just haunting....
Knockin' on Heaven's Door - Gn'R. First solo I learned and probably the only one I can truely play well.
