If you had a Bajillion dollars, what gear would you own?

Re: If you had a Bajillion dollars, what gear would you own?

i'd get a warehouse............and something like 30 or 40 Green fullstacks, with a 6x12 cabinet and a 4x12 cabinet each. I'd set them up in a huge circle and sit in the middle playing down-tuned doom riffs with my hoodie up until the vibrations liquified my brains. Once the built-up feedback from me just laying there with a liquified brain gets too intense i'm sure they'll send in like a SWAT team or whatever but it'll just be me and my greenz...

edit:some guitars
powder blue strat with lipstick pups
the oldest telecaster i could find with a bigsby

Re: If you had a Bajillion dollars, what gear would you own?

I'd start my own record label and sign only good and rocking bands! I'd buy a huge house, a huge studio and a Nissan Skyline!
After that I'll buy a Mesa Stiletto + matching cab, a Gibson Les Paul Custom, a White Gibson SG reissue and a Bogner Ubershall + 2 ubershall cabs... That'll keep me busy for quite some time, after that I will probably go nuts out of boredom or something.

I would def. share my wealth with my family!

A 14 fret national style O with slotted headstock (vintage one)

A national Dan (the only ones are vintage)

Cunetto CS tele and strat or two...

Re: If you had a Bajillion dollars, what gear would you own?

I'd stay with my gear(which is nothing really special), or maybe change it every now and again (which I tend to do anyway).

I would spend the money seeking out the guitarists that I admire and paying them for private lessons, watching/listening to them play and spend some time jamming with me....believe me, the way I play, I'd have to pay them a fortune to jam with me.

Then relax, have a few beers and shoot the s***t about their experiences, etc.

Boring to some, yes, but that would be my dream.

This would bring me more happiness than a expensive gear that wouldn't make me sound/play much better than I do now anyway.

After doing this, I'd organize a huge concert (think Woodstock) and invite all you guys.

Re: If you had a Bajillion dollars, what gear would you own?

Mmm...this game is way more fun with a dollar limit. But I'll bite...

For guitars, I'd get a '59 Gibby LP in cherry sunburst all original, a '62 Fender Strat, a '52 Tele, and a 1960's Martin D28. These are collector items to be played rarely.

Realistically, I'd build all my own Warmoth projects, since I'd have enough money to build a finishing shop (one of my dreams, since I build drums). I'd make one of each of the following:

Les Paul style, korina body, flamed maple top, korina neck, Brazillian rosewood fretboard, matching flamed maple headstock veneer. Medium-jumbo with 22 frets. Cherry burst with gold hardware. Antiquity HB's or original PAF's. Grover/Schaller/Tonepros hardware and an Earvana nut.

PRS style, mahogany body, AAAAA quilted maple top, mahogany neck, ziricote fretboard, matching AAAAA quilted maple headstock veneer. Medium-jumbo with 24 frets. Green to blue "Carriburst" finish with nickel hardware. JB/C5 hybrid and Jazz/59 hybrid. Grover/Schaller/Tonepros hardware and an Earvana nut.

Strat style, swamp ash body, flamed maple top, one-piece birdseye maple neck and fretboard. Medium-jumbo with 22 frets. Tobacco burst with chrome hardware. Twangbanger and APS2's. Grover/Schaller hardware and an Earvana nut.

Tele style, alder or mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard. Medium-jumbo with 22 frets. Candy apple red with chrome hardware. A pair of P90's or Phat Cats. Grover/Schaller hardware and an Earvana nut.

Soloist style, alder body, maple neck, ebony fretboard. Medium-jumbo with 24 frets. All black with black hardware. EMG 81/85. Grover/Schaller hardware and a Floyd Rose.

Tacoma DR20 acoustic guitar (rosewood sides/back/fretboard, spruce top).

Maybe a Taylor, just so people can play it when they come over and realize just how bad they sound compared to a real acoustic guitar :27:

And I'd get myself a nice 5-string Gecko bass with walnut body and neck, ebony fretboard, and flamed walnut top with a deep gloss. Standard hardware and some kind of active pickup (don't know which).

For amps, I'd have an old black panel Dual Rectifier with Mesa 4x12 (speakers would be V30's and MB Black Shadows). I'd have a Mark IV long head with a similar cab. Randall MTS 100W head and V30/CL80 4x12 cab for gigs with the Blackface, Plexi, and Recto modules. A Matchless DC-30 with a Celestion Alnico Blue and a Greenback, a JCM 800 (NMV) with a 4x12 Greenback cab, an Uberschall with Uberkab, a 5150 with Sheffield cab, and maybe an old Fender Dual Reverb.

Bass amps would include a rack setup with BBE and Tech 21 pre's, an SVT rig, Aguilar stuff, and a 2x10"/horn cab and 15" sub cab.

Pedals, I'd have a Menatone Red Snapper, Fulltone OCD, Z. Vex Wah Probe, Line 6 Delay Mod, Peterson Strobostomp, maybe an old Tubescreamer, a Dunlop tremolo...that should be good.

Drums you guys don't care about. But I'd build a huge kit with 8-ply shells and flanged hoops. Custom lugs. Chrome hardware. Something like 6"x8", 7"x10", 8"x12", 9"x13", 12"x14", 13"x15", 14"x16", 16"x18", 16"x18" kick drum, (2) 18"x20" kick drums, (2) 17"x22" kick drums, (2) 16"x24" kick drums, 14"x26" kick drum, and 14"x30" kick drum. Snares in 4"x14", 5"x14", 6"x14", 7"x14", 8"x14", 5"x13", 7"x13", and some cast shell and metal shell snares. A full compliment of Zildjian Avedis, A Customs, K's, Istanbuls, Paiste Sigs, Paiste 2002's, and Paiste Dimensions. Lots of hardware.

And then what I would do is set up whatever kits I want to play. I'd probably have a few of some of the more common tom sizes and have them set up as a jazz kit, fusion kit, rock kit, and weird/experimental kit. Different heads and tuning to suit each style.

And a bevy of recording equipment as well...

Re: If you had a Bajillion dollars, what gear would you own?

I'd buy a early 1930's National Tri Cone for about $5000...a couple of pre 1970 Oscar Schmidt Appalachian Autoharps...a Gibson F-5 Llyod Loar Mandolin and Mandola (one of each please!)...one of my brother's Aurora Amps (the 20 watt/40 watt convertable version with reverb!)...I'd like a couple of the old Stella's from the 30's like real delta blues guys used...I'd love a pre-WW II Martin D-28 or D-45 or OM-HD28.

You really should stick a 14 fret duolian or style o on your list, just to round things out. Although a tricone is louder and more even, you lose some of that gnarl (although I'm sure you know more about these things than I do :smack: )

Other than that, I have to say that your acoustic tastes are fine if I may say so.

Thanks! I have a '30 Style O. That takes care of the single resonator duties quite nicely ... :)

Re: If you had a Bajillion dollars, what gear would you own?

I came up with a new answer when I saw the cover of this month's Guitar Player...

Just two guitars; Andy Summer's Sunburst Tele Custom, and Jeff Beck's 'Blow by Blow' '54 Les Paul.

My old answer would have been three Tele's (normal, neck HB, and Nashville) and a trio of LP Goldtops: Standard, Deluxe, and P-90.

For amps, I can't imagine - I love my freaky little Univox-looking 18 Watter clone so much. But as long as we're dreaming in three's, I'll add three stacks:

- Univox UX-1501 head with UX-1516 6x12 cab (in blue of course)
- Fender Dual Showman Reverb stack (with 2x15" JBL's of course)
- Marshall JMP 2203 half-stack (with basket-weave grill-cloth of course, and throw in an 8x10 cab for laughs)

All this points out one glaring problem that a brazillian dollars could fix - a place to play. I could be happy with the gear I have now if only I had a place to leave it setup, where I could play any time without worrying about disturbing the kids/wife/neighbor. That would be the first guitar-related thing I'd do with this imaginary pile o' money.

Ibanez Jem

Ibanez Destroyer

Gibson Explorer

Gibson V

Gibson SG

A nice vintage Tele

Jackson Superstrat, preferably an 80s one.

Re: If you had a Bajillion dollars, what gear would you own?

GUITARS: i would get 2 fender jaguars, and 2 jazzmasters. a strat from the 50's, a strat from the 60's, like 10 new strats (not sure maybe just a standard) all equipped with various SD and other aftermarket strat pickups. various teles, including a few of those 72's with the wide range humbuckers.

i would have one gibson guitar. a vintage les paul with p90's.

i would still ahve my purple ibanez, but change out the bridge pickup (dont know with what)

various jackson soloists, some with bill lawrence xl500's, and one or 2 with EMG's just in case (not that i would ever use the one with EMG's) to cover my rare high gain escapades.

a gretsch white falcon, and an orange bo diddly rectangle guitar.

my dad's acoustic, a 12 string martin i guess, and a couple more acoustics just for shows. some crappy classicals to smash.

AMPS: mesa f- 50 head through a nice 4x12 (dont know waht kind). a single rec through another 4x12.

lots of fender amps. a celtic brenna head through a nice 2x12 cab, some bassmen, twin reverbs, whatev whatev.

marshall jtm45, various plexis, thats about it for the marshalls.

a few hiwatts, like 200 dumbles (just to smash), some

EFFECTS: big muff, sd twin tube classic, tweak fuzz, eh p.o.g., whatever chorus is good, and pretty much all other mod pedals that are worth it. i would have the biggest effects collection ever. anything worth it.

o and an epiphone valve junior.

Re: If you had a Bajillion dollars, what gear would you own?

I get to keep what I've got, right?

I'd force Scott Lentz to build my bass. :)

A 62/63 Jazz Bass

The new Eden 1200w head.

A Mesa Bass 400+

I'd probably get 2 killer 2x15 cabs. (Imagine pushin' 40hz through 4x15s!!!)

I'd shoot for a nice 59 burst, but I'd settle for an early 60. :)

A 59-early 60 LP Special.

A 58-59 Natural 335.

A mid 50s Super 400

A 59-65 Tele

A 68 100w Marshall

A 69 100w metal face Marshall

An assortment of Marshall 4x12 cabs from 69-81.

A Gibson GA-79

I'm boring and predictable, eh?

Re: If you had a Bajillion dollars, what gear would you own?

This might seem boring but i really wouldnt buy a messload of Gear. Like i said before i think that makes it lose some of the magic. i like having more intimate relations with my gear and i dont think that owning too much stuff alows for that.

I would totally pay Ed Van Halen to teach me how to build guitars the way he build them along with any other sonic secrets he has to offer. Hang out and drink a few bruskies with him and shoot the ****, jam a bit. That would be TOO COOL.

I would dig paying someone like Zerb to teach me more on guitar building so i could get it down to more of an art and be proficient on it, so i could build just about anything.

i am pretty happy with my amp now so i dont really dream about owning something else. Maybe i would like to own an area where i could crank my amp more. Like a small home studio or something. Sound proofed of course.
so then i would buy an old Marshall PLexi and of course have Ed show me how to make the whole setup scream.

Thats about it, i guess. oh and maybe a real old vintage Les Paul cause there perrty.

Other than that not much more. Traveling to cool places around the world sounds awesome as well.

Less Gear more magic! Gear aint worth diddly if you cant play!
